Upon its release at the beginning of 2023, the TV series The Last of Us achieved something incredible and thought to be impossible: it broke the video game adaptation curse. It’s widely known that TV shows based on video games are not always very well received, but The Last of Us proved everyone wrong.

The show is based on the popular action-adventure game series by Naughty Dog, and it managed to impress audiences with its devotion and improvement upon the source material.

The expectations are even higher for season 2, and we are anxiously waiting to find out if showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann will live up to them.

Luckily, The Last of Us season 2’s official filming dates have been confirmed by the team. Read below to have all your burning questions answered.

The Last of Us Season 2 Storyline

The first season of the HBO series was praised for following the original game storyline very faithfully. Some of the episodes further develop the characters from the games and give them bigger roles to play in the TV show, such as the characters of Bill and Frank. They were given their moment to shine in Season 1, Episode 3, and Nick Offerman even won this year’s Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Bill.

It’s safe to assume season 2 will do the same. We trust that the show will continue to follow the same storyline from the games but also expand on the character world that fans have grown to love in interesting and surprising ways.

It’s been officially confirmed by showrunners and Bella Ramsey that there will be a significant time jump in Joel and Ellie’s story. Season 2 will follow Ellie at 19 years old, about 5 years after the events of season 1, which also happen in the second game, The Last of Us: Part II.

In an HBO podcast interview, Craig Mazin also said the show will likely dive deeper into the Cordyceps fungus and the infected hive mind. Their dangerous interconnectivity will be brought forward as a bigger threat to survivors.
