However, it seems that production is going smoothly, as Margot Robbie was just announced to be joining the crew. Monopoly The Movie: Production Process and Production Company

The Monopoly movie production has been rumored for years, but it wasn't until December 2023 that Lionsgate Motion Picture Group gained even more development rights after acquiring eOne, Hasbro's entertainment studio. Hasbro itself is popular worldwide for its gaming and entertainment products and is joining the production team.

In collaboration with these two companies, it was announced just this week at CinemaCon that Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, will also be involved in the Monopoly movie. It was reported that LuckyChap has already begun its creative process for the movie.

Margot Robbie Produces the Monopoly Movie

It is certainly understandable why Lionsgate decided to enlist Margot as a producer for the movie. With her outstanding work on the award-winning Barbie movie, Robbie's ideas would undoubtedly contribute greatly to the film.

Although we don't know anything about the plot of the upcoming Monopoly movie yet, many speculate that it might be in the same genre as Barbie. Despite both movies depicting the story of a toy, they don't seem to have much in common at first glance. It will be interesting to see how the production team chooses to present the gameplay of Monopoly with all its possible choices and options. Or perhaps the Monopoly producers have a different vision in mind? Who knows? Nonetheless, we can all be sure that Margot Robbie's signature production style will be evident in the Monopoly film too.

The Similar Background of Monopoly and Barbie

What's interesting is that similar to the Barbie toy, Monopoly was also originally created by a woman although it is not as well-known. In 1903, Lizzie Maggie created a board game about the dangers of the economy and real estate industry called The Landlord's Game. Her game was later used by Charles B. Darrow and evolved into what we now know as Monopoly. Unlike Mattel's cofounder - Ruth Handler, Lizzie didn't profit from her contribution to the biggest board game of all time. 

Given the nature of the Barbie movie, we are curious if the Monopoly movie will also depict the real-life story behind the mass production and creation of Monopoly. With two clever women standing at the base of those huge toy corporations, there are certainly more things that connect Monopoly and Barbie than we thought.
