Blocking and parrying are some of the most important moves you'll perform during your battles in Space Marine 2, and the Defensive Styles are responsible specifically for them.

Each style is locked to certain upgrades that you can mix and match however you want. Here are all Defensive Styles and their effects:

Defensive Style Effect
Balanced
  • Small Perfect Parry window
  • Small Block window
Block
  • No Perfect Parry
  • Blocks all incoming Melee DMG
Fencing
  • Large Perfect Parry window

Keep in mind that you shouldn't expect a lot of flexibility from the early weapons, but higher tiers will offer different upgrades for every Defensive Style.

Aggressive melee combat is generously rewarded in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, especially when it comes to Health and Armor recovery. However, even though blocking will protect you, it won't give you any benefits. On the other hand, Fencing can work on any weapon, and landing a Perfect Parry will leave enemies vulnerable, which makes it the best Defensive Style.

Be aware that with the Fencing Defensive Style, you'll be able to deal a lot more damage, and you can easily set up stronger enemies for execution if you haven't killed them already.
