The Boys Season 4 dropped this week with the premiere of not one but three full episodes. The new season is definitely living up to expectations and is full of the gruesome and funny scenes that we all love. In Season 4, we are introduced to some new characters, two of whom are new additions to The Seven: Sister Sage and Firecracker. These new Supes have very unique and interesting personas and will significantly influence the story.
In the third episode, we saw Sister Sage in a different light, and a mysterious object became a topic of confusion among fans. Find out what that metal object is and why it is significant to the plot of The Boys Season 4.

What Was The Metal Object Next to Sister Sage?
Sister Sage's power is being the smartest person on Earth. At the end of Episode 3 of the new season, we see Sage in an unusual light. So far, she has presented herself as very confident and stern. However, in the last scene of the episode, she is watching trashy reality shows and eating junk food with the Deep in a much more relaxed manner. As a matter of fact, Sage was so out of character that she even started making out with the Deep, who said that she is not the 'b*tch' he thought she was. All that shows how drastic the change in her personality was.
Right after the two of them started kissing, the camera moved to a weird metal object with blood on it. While some fans seem to have picked up on what this item was, many others (like me) were left confused. It turns out that the mysterious item is, in fact, an orbitoclast. An orbitoclast is a surgical instrument that was used for performing lobotomies back in the 1940s. For those who don't know, a lobotomy is a very controversial brain surgical procedure that was done with the purpose of 'curing' the pain of people with mental illnesses. In actuality, this practice had an extremely high death rate, and the poor people who survived were left in a permanent vegetative state.

Why Did Sister Sage Lobotomize Herself?
You might be wondering why Sister Sage would lobotomize herself in the first place. Well, let's say that this is the price of having the sharpest mind in the world. As the smartest person, Sister Sage cannot stop her brain from working non-stop. It turns out that the only way she can 'unwind' is by lobotomizing herself.
Fans had some very interesting discussions about what effects this might have on Sister Sage. From the little we know about her Supe abilities, her healing abilities are moderate compared to others. While some fans think that her current consciousness might be permanent, it is more likely that she just needs more time to get back to her usual self.

Some viewers made a good point that it is highly possible for us to see Sage in another one of her 'relaxed moments' right when an emergency begins. If that happens, she will be useless and unable to respond to any possible issues. Think of Frenchie in one of the new episodes. Since he was so drugged and out of it, he couldn't help Kimiko during their fight with the Shining Light Terrorists. If Sage is put in a similar situation, it might result in her tremendous downfall as Homelander's advisor.
