Ship customization in Starfield offers immense creative possibilities, but it can also be bewildering, especially for newcomers. The challenge often lies in ensuring that all ship parts align seamlessly, even for seasoned shipbuilders.

When delving into Starfield's Ship Builder menu, you gain the ability to affix various parts to different sections of your ship, and you can replace existing parts to accommodate new ones. However, a common frustration arises when the selected part does not align correctly with the intended side of the ship. Fortunately, there is a solution.

How to Rotate Ship Parts in Starfield

To adjust the orientation of a ship part to fit a specific location, look to the bottom of your screen, where you'll find the "Flip" option. You can activate this by simultaneously pressing the designated button (Z on the keyboard or Y on the controller) while holding down the left-click button on your mouse or pressing the A button on your controller. This action will flip the part in a new direction.

Crucially, ensure you are in the Ship Builder menu for ship customization, not the Upgrade Ship menu. Access the Ship Builder menu by interacting with a ship services technician in a major city and selecting the "view and modify" dialogue option. Then, navigate to the Ship Builder option at the bottom of your screen.

Inside the Ship Builder menu, you can overhaul your ship, modify part colors, and exchange weaponry. To attach a new part to your ship, hover your cursor over the blue circle on your ship or move the cursor to the side of your ship.

Within the Ship Builder menu, look at the bottom of your screen, where you'll find the "Attach" or "Add" option. Select this option, and a list of available parts will appear. Pick the desired part, confirm your choice, and it will appear on the screen. Now, position the part on your ship according to your preferences.

Are All Ship Parts Rotatable in Starfield?

The degree to which you can rotate ship parts varies. Some parts can be flipped four times, allowing placement in all available directions. Others can only be flipped once, limiting your options. As a result, crafting your ship's design hinges on your selection of parts that can be rotated.

It's important to note that not all ship parts can be freely rotated like items and structures at your Outpost. You are bound by the available directions specified for each part, so adapt your building strategy accordingly. To check if a part can be rotated, look for the flip option at the bottom of the Ship Builder menu after selecting or hovering over the piece.

Exercise caution when flipping ship parts, as errors may occur, such as the "Landing Bay is not connected to the Cockpit" message.
