Discoveries

WOW Season of Discovery might seem like regular Classic WoW at first. Around level 2, your class trainer will offer you a quest to go on a search for a rune. After this initial quest you'll be on your own in the search for "discoveries" which won’t appear on the map. This adds an explorative element to the game, unveiling hidden locations for adventure. Greenfield predicts players will form social groups in-game and offline to uncover more runes.

Runes

Rune Engraving is a key aspect of the Season of Discovery. It's a new skill, automatically learned by all characters upon creation. This skill allows you to collect and apply new class abilities directly to your equipment. Until level 25, these runes can be applied to the chest, legs, and glove slots, with more slots unlocking as you level up.

Runes are permanent and cannot be lost. They can be applied and reapplied out of combat at will. They are separate from the WoW Talent System, enabling combinations of damage, healing, and more. For instance, if your group lacks a Tank, using Tank Runes can alter your build. Some runes provide formerly faction-specific buffs, like those for paladins and shamans.
