World of Warcraft Season of Discovery allowed for some classes to take up new roles in the game through the new runes that were added for Phase 1. We will be taking a look at the tank classes currently so you can see which will best fit your play style and your group's needs depending on the encounter in Blackfathom Deeps.
Since Blizzard devs are fast to react to any overpowered abilities and items, the meta can shift from week to week, but we will take a look at the best picks currently so you withstand all of the raid bosses.
With that being said, let's get tanking!

WoW SoD S Tier PvE Tank Classes
This tier list is entirely based on the bosses in Blackfathom Deeps so we will be examining all of the available classes and how they manage to deal with mechanics and provide reliable tanking to your group. The S Tier Classes excel at almost everything a tank needs to do in a raid environment.
Warrior Tank
The warrior still holds strong onto his Vanilla dominance in terms of tanking as the kit is well-rounded with enough damage mitigation and threat generation combined with amazing abilities that hinder a boss' defenses and damage.
Warriors also can deal quite a lot of damage to single targets but since SoD is about trying out the new tanks, it seems that warriors are not as popular yet.
Shaman Tank
In a similar fashion to Warriors, Shamans also can wield shields and deal tons of damage to single targets whilst their new AoE abilities can help deal with trash mobs very effectively.
Shaman Tanks also have a great way of generating threat but their interrupt ability is not as reliable so DPS might have to help with kicking enemy casts.

WoW SoD A Tier PvE Tank Classes
The A tier classes are slightly weaker in comparison to the classes listed above, but that does not mean that they are not viable they do lack some polish that Warriors and Shamans have.
Paladin Tank
With Paladins finally having access to a taunt ability, they can now more effectively tank difficult encounters.
However, the main weakness Paladins face is not being able to either fully invest in dealing damage or mitigating it as their runes and talents do not offer the same potential as Warriors and Shamans.
Warlock Tank
The new tank in Season of Discovery, Warlocks now have access to new abilities but due to the difficult nature of obtaining the rune, some players might be hesitant to pick it up.
Nevertheless, the new kit provides amazing ways of tanking and damage mitigation so Warlocks might even go into S tier further into Phase 2.

WoW SoD B Tier PvE Tank Classes
Similar to A tier classes, these classes are not to be underestimated, however, they can be optional picks when there are much better tanks in the game currently.
Druid Tank
In Phase 1, Druids do not have access to their essential tanking talents and abilities со they fall a bit short in comparison to the DPS Feral or Healer Druid roles.
Overall, not a terrible tanking option, but you might have a rougher time maintaining threat.
Rogue Tank
Rogues can deal a lot of single-target damage and they have access to very strong tanking abilities, but unfortunately, they do not fare well against spell casters as they do not currently have any effective ways of mitigating spell damage.
Hopefully, the devs will add more options for Rogues in future phases as they can still be quite a strong tank.

WoW SoD Tank Classes Tier List Summary
Overall, Warriors are the cornerstone when it comes to tanking, but Shamans might look to take their throne in future phases as Warlocks are just slightly behind both of them. Hopefully, Rogues get more fun tanking abilities and Druids can best utilize their innate tanking capabilities.
