The Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.4 beta has been out for some time now, and thanks to the leakers, players have gotten information on what’s being worked on and what we can expect in the upcoming version. Apart from the new characters, Miyabi and Harumasa, the leakers have uncovered and shared that the Ultimate and Decibel systems in ZZZ will be getting some huge changes starting Version 1.4. With the most notable change being that after the new version, each character will have their own unique Decibel Meter rather than sharing one with the whole team. What does that mean? Well, you can find that out below!

What are Decibels

Decibels are one of the unique features of the Zenless Zone Zero combat. Players can accumulate Decibels by fighting, using skills, taking damage, and other actions. Before Version 1.4, the Decibels for the whole team were shared, and whenever you accumulated 3000 Decibels you could cast an Ultimate. An Agent’s ultimate consumes all 3000 Decibels, leaving you to start over from scratch. This also means that you can only use one Agent’s ult at a time, forcing you to choose between using the Ultimate of your main DPS or using the ultimate of your support characters. And making that choice is not that hard. However, after Version 1.4, this will all change.

Shared Decibels in Version 1.4

Leakers has disclosed that starting from Version 1.4, the decibel meter will not be shared between teammates. This means that each Agent will have their own Decibel Meters, allowing them to cast an ultimate whenever they accumulate 3000 Decibels. It is said that each Agent’s actions will generate decibels for both them and their teammates, but the specifics of this generation are still unknown. What is known is that each character will now be able to cast their Ultimate, and when they do, they will only consume their own Decibel Meter. This will allow for a new playstyle that doesn’t focus on only using the main DPS’s ult, but players will now have to think about swapping to other characters to use their ultimates as well.

Player Worries

Following this leak, players grew anxious over the prospect of having such a core mechanic of the combat be changed. Having each character be able to use their ultimate without having to choose one from the team will inevitably lead to a new playstyle, the need for new strategies, and maybe even new team configurations. However, the thing that players are most worried about is what will happen with characters that are burst dependent, such as Zhu Yuan. Zhu Yuan relies heavily on her Ultimate to deal damage, so a decrease in Decibel generation rate, due to it now being personal rather than team-wide, can lead to a harder time for burst characters, who might have trouble stacking up enough Decibels on their own. It has been leaked that one of the upcoming characters, Miyabi, will have a decibel-generating Mindscape Cinema, which will inevitably help with the Decibel generation, but there is no information on what will happen to already released characters. It is still too early to say how the team behind ZZZ will approach this change, and we’re excited to learn more as the version gets closer!
