Despite receiving high reviews upon its launch, interest in the game has waned since its release in June 2023. Although Season 1 attempted to rekindle interest, it fell short for many players, leaving doubts about the live-service Action RPG's future.

Now, with Season 2 on the horizon, featuring a new Vampire companion and various quality-of-life improvements, let's take a look at the current player count for Diablo 4 and whether it can be deemed a "dead game."

Diablo 4 Player Count Ahead of Season 2

Blizzard does not directly disclose its player numbers, but according to Active Player, Diablo 4 currently boasts an active player count of 6.6 million users in the last 30 days.

This represents an increase of approximately 636,000 players compared to the previous month. So, despite a minor dip to just over six million monthly users in August, the active player count for Diablo 4 is actually on the rise in September.

On a daily basis, Diablo 4 sees an average of slightly over 442,000 players logging in.

It's important to note that these figures encompass players on all platforms, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Player counts on individual platforms will be lower, but the game does support crossplay.

The increase in Diablo 4 players is likely attributable to Blizzard's continuous support for the game. Season 1 brought numerous additional features and loot, and the game regularly receives hotfixes that introduce valuable quality-of-life enhancements.

Moreover, with Season 2: Season of Blood approaching, many players are likely gearing up their characters in anticipation of the new content set to arrive in October.

Compared to other multiplayer games in the market, Diablo 4 maintains a notably healthy player count, and this count is steadily increasing. While the community may have its grievances about Diablo 4, it does not seem to be deterring players from participating.

Diablo 4 Season 2 is scheduled for release on October 17, 2023, featuring Gemma Chan as the voice of the new Vampire companion, Erys. Details about the extent of the Season 2 update are still forthcoming, and our guide will be updated once more information becomes available.
