Ubisoft is shedding much of the RPG complexity they introduced to Assassin’s Creed since Origins and is returning to the game's original essence. Mirage will emphasize exploration and parkour action. But how will it perform on the Steam Deck?

Taking a look at Ubisoft's recommended specs, it seems that the Steam Deck should handle the game well at Low settings with a resolution of 720p or 800p. While it's not as demanding as some other games, achieving 1080p and 30FPS appears to require a relatively older PC.

If you're not expecting a blazing 60FPS experience and are content with 30 or 40FPS, Assassin’s Creed Mirage should run smoothly on Valve’s Steam Deck.

Most of this year's major game releases have performed admirably on the Steam Deck, powered by the Van Gogh APU. With the exception of Starfield, the Steam Deck has been our preferred way to enjoy many games.

Fortunately, the game will support both AMD’s FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) and Intel’s XeSS supersampling software, which should help boost performance on the Steam Deck. These options take the on-screen image, resize it, and then restore it to its original resolution using clever algorithms. In the case of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we found that XeSS delivered both performance and visual quality.

Currently, the main concern lies with Ubisoft's launcher. The Steam Deck employs Proton, a translation layer that emulates Windows, allowing non-Linux native applications to run. While Proton has generally been successful, Ubisoft has sometimes caused compatibility issues.

If Ubisoft's launcher breaks compatibility with Proton for any reason, it can render the game unplayable. While we don't anticipate Assassin’s Creed Mirage straining the hardware significantly at Low settings and 720p resolution, there may be concerns about the Ubisoft launcher experiencing issues after the game's release.
