Introduced in early 2021, Mythic items were intended to simplify power growth and streamline champion builds. However, these items have faced criticism from the community for oversimplifying some champions' builds and pushing others into using suboptimal Mythic items.

Saying Goodbye to Mythic Items in League In a developer update released on August 28, Riot announced their decision to eliminate the Mythic item system completely for the 2024 preseason changes.

Pu Lui, Game Director of League of Legends, discussed these changes alongside updates to the ranked system.

"Earlier this year we said we weren't really happy with how Mythic Items landed and that we were open to removing the system entirely if the changes implemented didn't bring us closer to where we wanted to be. Well, they didn't. So starting in January of 2024, Mythic Items will be removed from League of Legends," Lui explained.

Lui elaborated on the shortcomings of the system, noting that it failed to cater to the needs of different champion classes and presented challenges. He mentioned that Mythic Items worked for approximately half of the League champions, leaving the other half with item builds that didn't align well.

While the Mythic item system will be scrapped, not all Mythic Items will disappear from the game. Items that players have grown to appreciate, such as Infinity Edge and Trinity Force, will remain, although they will no longer be categorized as Mythic items.
