Tekken 8 Game Director Hints at Possible Crossplay Options

The release of Tekken 8 ends an 8-year release drought for the Tekken franchise. Tekken 8 will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and the PS5. In this article, we will go over the latest tweet by Game Director Katsuhiro Harada, which goes over some new information about potential crossplay features in Tekken 8!

Will There Be Crossplay in Tekken 8?

Crossplay has traditionally not been a feature of past Tekken games. However based on a tweet by game director Katsuhiro Harada, it's possible that this feature could be available in Tekken 8. A fan of the series asked Harada whether or not he will add crossplay in Tekken 8 and he answered that 'of course he will', while also stating that there were issues between these platforms previously that have now been resolved. "Of course I will. When previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests & repeatedly refused."

Tekken 8: Xbox and PS5 Crossplay:

Though as yet unconfirmed, Xbox and PS5 cross-platform play likely to be supported at launch for Tekken 8, based on the tweet by Katsuhiro Harada. Cross-progression across platforms, however, has not yet been confirmed. This means any account progress such as outfit unlocks for your characters are likely to be limited to whichever platform these customizations were initially unlocked on.

Tekken 8: PC Crossplay:

Due to the vast differences in PC hardware vs. console hardware, PC and console crossplay is often rarer and more challenging for developers to accomplish. We've no reason to doubt at this time that PC and PS5/Xbox crossplay could be possible, though, as mentioned before, many specifics are as yet not confirmed. Harada's tweet also drew attention to the 'two platforms,' likely referring to Xbox and PlayStation, and did not mention PC specifically.
