Apex Legends Season 20 is not only bringing new maps, modes, and gameplay changes, such as being able to upgrade the abilities of your Legends during the match, but it is also going to be making adjustments to how the ranked system works.
The Apex Legends player base has been unhappy with how the ranked system works for a while now, with many players being able to easily reach some of the highest ranks by getting 'boosted' and 'carried' in parties. A lot of changes are coming to how matchmaking and scoring work in Season 20, so here is a full breakdown of everything we know so far!

Apex Legends Season 20 Ranked Changes
The Apex Legends community has been asking for changes to the ranked system for a while now, and Season 20 is finally going to try and address a lot of this feedback. The RP system from past seasons is coming back, and it will be the main factor determining who you end up in a match with, instead of the current MMR system. This new RP system is going to be a bit more lenient, allowing you to find matches with a larger bucket of players, as long as they have a similar amount of RP as you. If there aren't a sufficient number of players in your RP range, the system will slowly expand the pool to keep queue times low.
A full RP reset is going to happen at the start of the season, with no provisional matches being available. Mid-season splits will also be reintroduced, which will reset your rank by 6 tiers. The scoring system for gaining RP will also be adjusted, with a larger focus on kills. Here are some of the new metrics for gaining RP in Season 20 of Apex Legends:
RP per KP:
- 20th-11th: 10
- 10th-6th: 12
- 5th-4th: 16
- 3rd: 18
- 2nd: 22
- 1st: 26

Placement RP:
- 20th-14th: 0
- 13th-11th: 5
- 10th-9th: 10
- 8th-7th: 20
- 6th: 30
- 5th: 45
- 4th: 55
- 3rd: 70
- 2nd: 95
- 1st: 125
The main things you should focus on if you want to get as much RP as possible are:
- Combat RP: Regular stats, including kills, assists etc.
- Bonus RP: Killing higher ranked players and keeping a top 5 streak between matches.
- Placement RP: Placement and entry costs.
All of these changes aim to improve the matchmaking system by making it a lot more transparent and easy to understand, while also creating more balanced matches for players. Hopefully, these changes are able to meet the demands of the playerbase, with ranked becoming a lot more fun and fair to play.
