Who's Geralt of Rivia?

Geralt of Rivia is the main character in the The Witcher franchise. He is a skilled monster hunter known as a Witcher, who possesses powerful abilities and undergoes rigorous training from a young age to combat supernatural threats. Geralt is known for his dry sense of honor, wit, and his ongoing quest to find his adopted daughter, Ciri. Geralt's character has become an icon in modern fantasy literature and gaming.

In this guide, we will be using the following ability score for Geralt in BG3:

Geralt of Rivia Race, Background, and Class in BG3 (Level 1)

In order to build a Witcher properly, Geralt needs to be:

• Race: Human
• Class: Fighter
• Fighting Style: Great Weapon Fighting
• Background: Outlander

Geralt of Rivia at Level 2

• +1 Action: Action Surge

Geralt of Rivia at Level 3

• +1 Spell / +3 Passives / +1 Sublass Feature / +2 Second-level spell slots
• Sub Class: Battle Master
• Manoevres: Trip Attack, Disarming Strike, Feinting Attack, Evasive Footwork, Ripostle

Each of these maneuvers is great, and the choice depends on which one best fits your playstyle. Trip Attack, for example, can render your enemies prone, which is a significant advantage to you.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 4

• +1 Feat
• Feat: Magic Initiate: Sorcerer. Fire Bolt, Friends, Thunder wave.

At level 4 Geralt starts feeling like himself, instead of just another Baldur's Gate 3 fighter. It's time to pick up his magic spells - Yrden (Thunder wave), Igni (Fire Bolt), Axii (Friends).

Geralt of Rivia at Level 5

• +1 Cantrip / +1 Action

At level 5 fighters get their Extra Attack, which makes them great in battle. Paired with Action Surge, Geralt might solo carry your battles.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 6

• +1 Feat
• Feat: Great Weapon Master

When Geralt crits or kills a target, Great Weapon Master will give him a bonus action. Pair that up with Extra Attack and Action Surge, and you can get 5 attacks per turn.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 7

• Add Class: Barbarian
• +1 Action, +2 Class Features

At level 7 we spice up the Witcher build by adding the Barbarian class into the mix. This will give you Rage, which will be extremely useful during battle.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 8

• +1 Class Feature, +1 Action

Danger Sense and Reckless Attack are a huge boost to Geralt and fit his character perfectly.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 9

• Subclass: Berserker
• +3 Actions

Geralt can now go into Frenzy, which gives him resistance to physical damage and an advantage on Strength checks.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 10

• +1 Feat
• Feat: Savage Attacker or Mobile

Evading difficult terrains and opportunity attacks is what really sells Mobile. However, Savage Attacker could be a better choice as it gives you the opportunity to roll your damage twice.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 11

• +1 Level Fighter
• +2 Maneuvers

We return to leveling up the Fighter skill. You'll be able to pick two maneuvers. We already discussed those in the guide, so feel free to pick the ones you like the most.

Geralt of Rivia at Level 12

• +1 Feat
• Feat: Martial Adept

We're at the final character level in BG3, Pick up Martial Adept for the Superiority dice and choose 2 more Feat Passives.
