10. Speak with Animals

Bard, Druid, Ranger, Barbarian (Wildheart), Paladin (Oath of the Ancients), Warlock (Beast Speech Invocation), Cleric (Nature Domain)

Larian Studios

Speak with Animals may not be useful in combat, yet its one of the best picks outside of battles. It unveils hidden secrets and unlocks diverse conversation options. This spell promises interesting exploration and interaction within the world of BG3, offering a unique narrative.

9. Fireball

Sorcerer, Wizard, Cleric (Light Domain), Warlock (Fiend), Bard

Larian Studios

Fireball is one of those classic and well-known D&D spells. It's quite useful in BG3 too. It deals 8d6 Fire Damage over a huge area. It can also ignite anything flammable in its way, making it way more dangerous.

8. Tasha's Hideous Laughter

Bard, Wizard, Fighter (Eldritch Knight), Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer (Copper)

Tasha's Hideous Laughter leaves one creature prone with laughter. They won't be able to get up, although they can try to shake off the spell each time they take damage. The duration is 10 turns, which is a lot of time. Using this spell on more dangerous enemies will let you defeat of the rest of the foes, without taking serious damage. Once you defeat them, you can focus on the big threat.

7. Eldritch Blast

Warlock, Bard

Larian Studios

Eldritch Blast is a cantrip known to D&D players. It's particularly useful early on in Baldur's Gate 3 when you might run out of spell slots. It deals some amazing 1D10 Force damage. The higher the level, the more beams you can use - either 2 or 3.

6. Healing Word (or any other healing spell)

Cleric, Bard, Druid

Baldur's Gate 3 players often overlook clerics and health spells. They can be very useful and important during battles, helping you with sustainability. Healing Word, in particular, not only does heals, but it also helps party members regain hit points.

5. Guidance

Cleric, Druid, Warlock

Larian Studios

Guidance is a spell with great versatility, both in and out of combat scenarios. It adds 1d4 to any skill check, and it's a cantrip, which means you won't lose any spell slots in the dialogue. This will help you a lot in progressing the storyline the way you want it to go. It adds a little kick to all of your choices at literally no price! You can get Guidance from the Silver Pendant too, from the Harper Outpost.

4. Shatter

Warlock, Sorcerer, Wizard, Bard

Shatter is an AOE spell that deals serious damage to a large group of enemies. It's amazing against inorganic targets, who must make their Saving Throw at Disadvantage.

3. Sanctuary

Cleric, Paladin, Bard

Larian Studios

Cast Sanctuary on a party member, and no one will be able to hurt them until they attack. This is an insanely good spell, and it almost feels like cheating. Place it on your cleric and use spells which don't do any damage, and you'll be able to keep them untouched through the whole battle.

2. Cloud of Daggers

Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

Larian Studios

Cloud of Daggers is a very satisfying spell to use. It takes up a large area, and it damages everyone within it, dealing slashing damage. It's great for crowd control, especially when placed strategically. It lets you do damage even when it's not your turn, in the case in which enemies pass through it. The only downside to this BG3 spell is that your own party members might get caught in the Cloud of Daggers.

1. Spirit Guardians

Cleric, Bard

Larian Studios

Spirit Guardian is an evocation spell that calls forth a circle of spirits to protect you. They can do either radiant or necrotic damage for 10 turns. Every enemy who comes close to you, within the circle, will be damaged. This spell is especially great in the rat fights and, thanks to it, you can literally end them in a single turn. The rats will combust the second they come close to you. You can even use this spell to simply walk from enemy to enemy and hurt them.

Have you had the opportunity to try out these spells in your Baldur's Gate 3 adventures? We hope you agree with us on how good they are.
