After the Witness is killed in The Final Shape, the first episode of Destiny 2 sends players on a mission to Nessus, where they must figure out why the local Vex on the planetoid have been acting suspiciously.
Players must gather information and locate several planetary samples on Nessus, including Organic Specimens, in order to assist Failsafe with the Vex problem.
Unlike other activities in this episode, you won't need to complete Destiny 2: The Final Shape to the maximum light level to get these, which makes them rather easy to obtain.

Destiny 2: What Are Organic Specimens For?
At this time, there are no useful applications for organic specimens. But based on how previous Destiny 2 seasons have operated, players can anticipate that these goods will be connected to one of the hidden triumphs found in Episode 1: Echoes.
A cursory look at the Collections tab indicates that Semitone Shift, a new ship with a style very similar to the Echoes armor sets, may be unlocked by gathering all five Organic Specimens. Players will also require the Specimens in order to unlock the Intrepid title if they are, in fact, connected to Triumphs.

Destiny 2: How To Get Organic Specimens
Acquiring Organic Specimens requires raising Failsafe's Vendor Rank at the HELM and earning reputation points. Engaging in the Enigma Protocol or Breach Executable activities in Destiny 2 will allow you to achieve this. Anything associated with Episode 1: Echoes will also affect your vendor ranking with Failsafe.
Three Organic Specimens are available to players via Failsafe's first-rank rewards track. By accomplishing the following Triumphs, you can obtain two more:
- More Like Research Bae: Complete all of Failsafe's research project quests.
- Mineral Processing: Deposit Radiolite Samples at Failsafe's Radiolite bay.

As you progress through the Echoes episode of Destiny 2, you will be able to unlock both Triumphs. As the weeks pass, the research project quests should become accessible.
Remember that Radiolite Samples are not the same as Organic Specimens. For the latter, you may find several scattered around Nessus as you patrol the region.
You may also earn them by exploring locations and triggering Planetary Pistons during Breach Executable runs. Donating Radiolite Samples to Failsafe will earn you additional Echoes prizes, such as the new armor sets and weaponry from the Episode.
