Diablo 4 Season 4 is well underway, and many players are enjoying the brand new 1.4.0 update, which brought some of the biggest changes since the release of the game. Not only has the entire itemization received a full rework, with loot becoming much more interactive with the addition of the Tempering and Masterworking crafting systems, but there is also a ton of new content to go through in the endgame. One of these endgame additions is the new Tormented versions of all of the bosses, which are much harder to defeat but also reward you with five times the loot.

In order to summon these bosses, however, you are going to need a brand new resource called Stygian Stones, and in this article, we are going to explain how they work and where you can find more of them.

What Are Stygian Stones in Diablo 4 Season 4?

Stygian Stones are a new resource added in Season 4, and they are used to summon the level 200 Tormented versions of the pinnacle bosses in the endgame. These bosses are significantly harder to defeat compared to their regular versions, as they have much more health and deal increased damage with each of their abilities. The Tormented versions of these bosses have the same loot pool as the regular ones, but upon defeat, they will drop five times the amount of items, making them much more rewarding to run if your character is strong enough.

Summoning Tormented bosses costs three times the regular amount of summoning materials as well as two Stygian Stones, making this one of the most valuable resources in the game.

How to Get Stygian Stones in Diablo 4 Season 4

Here are the three methods we have found for farming Stygian Stones in Diablo 4 Season 4:

Stygian Stones are currently very rare, and we expect their drop rate to be significantly increased in one of the upcoming patches for Season 4.

The Pit of the Artificer Dungeon

The first method of obtaining more Stygian Stones is by completing high levels of the new Pit of the Artificer endgame dungeon. While we don’t have information on how the drop rate works based on the level of the Pit, we have seen community members finding them as low as level 55. We suggest finding the highest level you can run efficiently, so you don’t risk losing time by dying to Elites or the final boss.

World Bosses

Stygian Stones can also drop from World Bosses on World Tier 4. World Bosses spawn every 3 hours and 30 minutes, so make sure to check the world map for the notification regularly. Here are the locations in which World Bosses can spawn in Diablo 4:

  • The Crucible in the Fractured Peaks.
  • Caen Adar in Scosglen.
  • Saraan Caldera in the Dry Steppes.
  • Seared Basin in Kehjistan.
  • Fields of Desecration in Hawezar.

The Iron Wolves Reputation Rewards

The final way of getting more Stygian Stones is through the new Iron Wolves reputation system. Some of the higher tier rewards, such as the Unspeakable Goods, will drop a bunch of boss summoning materials, as well as a few Stygian Stones. The reputation rewards are also character-specific, so you are able to farm them as many times as you wish as long as you create new toons and reach the same ranks.

That is everything you need to know about how Stygian Stones work in Diablo 4, as well as how you can get more of them. Their current drop rate is very low, so make sure to have a strong enough character before you actually start using them.
