Diablo 4 Loot Reborn is live now, and it’s introduced a few new systems for itemization. Along with reworking Helltides, Blizzard has introduced the new Tempering system, which lets you customize your build and make the perfect items for you.

Diablo 4 How Does Tempering Work
The Tempering system in Diablo 4 allows players to personalize their characters by attaching powerful, build-defining affixes to their gear. Normal and Sacred items can have one Tempering Affix attached to them, whereas Ancestral equipment can have two. Unique items, however, cannot be Tempered. Tempering Manuals, which appear at random throughout Diablo 4, allow players to learn Tempering Recipes that can be used indefinitely.
After choosing a piece of equipment, a Tempering Recipe, and delivering the ingredients to a Blacksmith, a random Tempering Affix from the chosen Tempering Recipe is applied to the item. Players can re-roll Tempering Affixes up to five times if they are dissatisfied with the outcome.

Diablo 4 Tempering Manuals
The Tempering System in Diablo 4 makes use of novel items known as Tempering Manuals. Use a manual to memorize the Tempering Recipe permanently. After learning a recipe, players can reuse it an unlimited number of times. Each Tempering Manual provides a Tempering Recipe that uses 2 to 6 different Tempering Affixes.
Tempering Manuals can be obtained from almost any in-game content. You are more likely to find Tempering Manuals if you complete events and defeat monsters in Helltides, defeat world bosses, Capstone Dungeons, Nightmare Dungeons, the Pit of Artificers, and other important activities.
You can find Magic Quality Temper Manuals in World Tier 1 and 2, Rare Quality Temper Manuals in World Tier 3, and Legendary Quality Temper Manuals in World Tier 4.
Furthermore, the level 50 priority quest "Tempering" is guaranteed to give a specific Tempering Manual. At level 50, players automatically receive this quest, which has to be completed at the Blacksmith in Kyovashad. The Tempering Manual is kept in a treasure chest at the Blacksmith's Shop.

Diablo 4 Tempering Categories
The Tempering Manuals and Recipes in Diablo 4 are classified similarly to Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power. Each of the six categories represents a subset of item types:
- Weapons: Can only be applied to Weapons.
- Offensive: Can be applied to Amulets, Weapons, Rings and Gloves.
- Defensive: Can be applied to Amulets, Helmets, Chest armor, and Pants.
- Utility: Can be applied to Amulets, Boots, Gloves, Helmets, Chest armor, and Pants.
- Mobility: Can be applied to Amulets and Boots.
- Resource: Can be applied to Amulets and Rings.
Normal and Sacred items can only have one Tempering Affix, while Ancestral items can have two. However, each Tempering Affix added to Ancestral equipment must fall into a distinct category. For example, Ancestral Rare or Legendary Boots may have two Tempering Affixes, one of which must be Mobility and the other Utility. You can see the whole list of appropriate Tempering Recipe categories for each equipment type below:
- Helms: Defensive and Utility
- Chest: Defensive and Utility
- Gloves: Offensive and Utility
- Pants: Defensive and Utility
- Boots: Mobility and Utility
- Amulets: Defensive, Utility, Offensive, Mobility and Resource
- Rings: Offensive and Resource
- Weapons: Offensive and Weapon

Diablo 4 Temper Re-rolls
When Tempering in Diablo 4, a single Tempering Affix is chosen at random from the Tempering Recipe. If a player wants a certain Tempering Affix from a known recipe, it is unlikely that it will be selected at random on the first try. Players can re-roll Tempering Affixes up to the item's Temper Re-roll limit, which is 5 times in total.
Recipes with three, four, or five affixes produce the most ideal combinations. Players should expect to have to go through a few tries, particularly if the recipes contain a large number of affixes. If the player is unlucky, an otherwise best-in-slot item might be "bricked" by re-rolling Tempering Affixes.
Tempering does not allow you to keep the prior result, which is why you should never try to get a better roll on a decent affix unless you're comfortable "bricking" the item. Players should pick at least one recipe that has a very low number of affixes or multiple acceptable ones, so they can increase their chances of success.
Summary
