In Dragon's Dogma 2, mages mainly serve a support role, though they also have offensive tools. Players are tasked with buffing and healing their party members while they also deal damage. Despite some players finding this role less appealing, being good support takes skill and can greatly impact gameplay. Mages typically attack and buff from the back lines, staying safe while buffing the entire team's performance.

Early on, mages rely heavily on offensive spells, but with progression and leveling up, they obtain an array of supportive abilities. It's important to select spells that exploit enemies' weaknesses and resistances, which will make your effectiveness in combat better. Additionally, stamina management is crucial for mages, and they rely on it completely for spellcasting.

Best Mage Skills in Dragon's Dogma 2

Weapon Skill

Flagration

  • Rank: 1
  • DCP Cost: 0
  • Description: Unleashes a swirling jet of flame straight ahead for a period of time. The flame ignores Defense and can pass through multiple targets. While active, the caster can still move.

Flagration will be one of the first spells you pick up as a Mage in Dragon's Dogma 2, allowing you to shoot a swirling jet of flame. You can set on fire a few enemies and the damage is decent.

Weapon Skill

Levin

  • Rank: 1
  • DCP Cost: 150
  • Description: Strikes an enemy from above with tongues of lightning. Can summon additional lightning bolts by consuming Stamina.

Levin is an AoE spell that does a lot of damage and it will help you get multiple enemies at once. This is the main damage spell when it comes to mages so you'll be using it a lot early on.

Weapon Skill

Halidom

  • Rank: 3
  • DCP Cost: 450
  • Description: Conjures a magickal sigil that cures the caster and their allies of certain debilitations (caught fire, frostbite, unconscious, sleep, silence, drenched, and tarred) while within range.

Halidom is great in situations when your enemies have sleep, silence, or poison abilities. You can protect your allies by curing them easily.

Weapon Skill

Fire Affinity

  • Rank: 5
  • DCP Cost: 1300
  • Description: An advanced form of Fire Boon that grants a longer-lasting enchantment.

Early on, like in most RPGs, fire is great for damage. With this spell, you will buff the melee or long-range damage dealers on your team.

Weapon Skill

Argent Succor

  • Rank: 8
  • DCP Cost: 2500
  • Description: An advanced form of Argent Tonic that gradually continues to recover Health for a period of time.

Argent Succor is a small heal you or your party members can rely on in Dragon's Dogma 2. It's one of those spells which fit a support build perfectly.
