The beloved open-world samurai action game Ghost of Tsushima is getting a sequel in the face of Ghost of Yotei. Sucker Punch announced the upcoming game at the PlayStation State of Play event, which aired on September 24, 2024. Let's discuss everything we know about the future release.

Ghost of Yotei: Official Trailer Announcement

Sucker Punch has announced Ghost of Yotei, featuring a new protagonist, an original storyline, and a new region of Japan to explore, set to release on the PS5 next year. The game promises familiar, stunning visuals, as well as a fresh gaming experience within the same narrative universe.

The sequel of Ghost of Tsushima will explore the story of the vengeful lonesome warrior Atsu, wandering the lands of Tsushima surrounding Mount Yōtei in the southwest of the island. You'll be immersed in 1603 rural Japan's Edo period, which sets the timeline of the sequel much further ahead than Ghost of Tsushima.

When we set out to make a new Ghost game, we wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world.

You won't be quite alone on your journey—along the way, Atsu will meet and befriend people and animals alike, like the wolf we see in the official trailer. The game also promises new features, such as new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons!

We still have very little information about the game itself, though we get to see incredible snippets in the trailer. In the words of Andrew Goldfarb, the Senior Communications Manager of Sucker Punch, during the upcoming months, they'll reveal more about Atsu's journey and what Ghost of Yotei has in store for us.

Ghost of Yotei: Release Date and Platforms

No official date has been confirmed as of now, however, Sucker Punch promises to release the game for PS5 sometime in 2025. Knowing the success of the predecessors of Ghost of Yotei, the game will probably receive its PC version shortly after the PS5 release.
