In a month filled with games, Helldivers 2 has definitely surpassed all expectations, with each day marking a new record-high peak in concurrent player numbers. With the previous installment in the series being quite niche, it was a huge surprise to the developers over at Arrowhead Game Studios that the game would become so popular in such a short amount of time. This underestimation has been the cause of a ton of server issues over the past few days, with players being unable to log in or find matches for extended periods of time.
With all that said, players have been banging on the server doors ever since the game released, and they will not stop until democracy has been spread within the galaxy. Let's take a look at just how big the player base for Helldivers 2 is and what that means for the future of the game.

First, let's take a look at the number of sales that have been achieved by the game. A recent post on Twitter/X by the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios reveals that the game has already reached 1 million sales, a stunning achievement for any non-AAA game. With word of mouth spreading each day about the quality of the gameplay, it is sure to reach new milestones regularly over the next few weeks. Here is the tweet by the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios:

Note: Keep in mind that the PlayStation player count is speculative.
If we take a look at Steamcharts, we can see that the record for peak concurrent players is still increasing day to day, with 196,089 divers logging in the last 24 hours. Keep in mind that these numbers are only for PC, and while PlayStation does not reveal any similar information, we can definitely expect there to be even more players diving on the console. In a recent post about the ongoing server issues, one of the developers stated that there was a login limit of 360,000 that was hit very rapidly, and at the time of the post, the numbers on Steam were roughly half of that. So yeah... there are at least the same, if not more, players on PS5 right now!
We definitely expect even more players to join in on the fun, with the next few weeks reaching higher and higher concurrent numbers. Helldivers 2 arrived at a perfect time, with players starting to lose interest in Palworld and looking for the next big co-op adventure. Hopefully, the team reaches even more milestones in the coming months, and if you are looking for more Helldivers 2 content, make sure to check out the rest of our website!
