In Palworld, most food items have an expiration date. If your food expires, Pals may face starvation or become incapacitated due to a fully depleted Hunger bar. Since the developers, Pocket Pair, are fixing glitches including the food timer reset glitch, players need alternative methods to keep the food from expiring. This guide will provide strategies to prevent food from expiring in Palworld the intended way without relying on glitches.
What is Food Expiration in Palworld
In Palworld, food expiration is a game mechanic that dictates how long a stack of food lasts before diminishing or disappearing. It's important to note that the expiration timer begins as soon as food is acquired, such as when it's picked up or placed in your inventory.
- Raw food typically has a shorter expiration timer than cooked food.
- The expiration timer can be manipulated through various methods, including cooling and cooking.

How to Keep Food from Expiring in Palworld
With the exception of Honey and Cotton Candy, there is no way to keep food from expiring forever. However, there are two methods to extend the food timer.
The first method involves cooling the food using a Cooling Box or Refrigerator. You unlock the Cooling Box recipe at Technology Level 13. It requires:
- 20 Ingots
- 20 Stones
- 5 Ice Organs
After building a Cooling Box, you need to assign a Pal with Cooling Work Suitability for it to function. The earliest Pals capable of this task is Pengullet or Penking. Simply pick up the Pal and throw it next to the Cooling Box to assign them to work there. For example, I tested this with Red Berries that had 10 minutes left, and their timer increased to 200 minutes.

The other method to extend food life is by cooking it. You can cook your food at a campfire or in a Cooking Pot, but this requires assigning a Kindling Pal to the task. This method, while providing better food, extends its lifespan by only a few minutes and is not as effective as using the Cooling Box.
How to Store Food in the Cooling Box
To encourage Pals in Palworld to use the Cooler Box for storing food, you can utilize the Feed Box strategically. Since Pals typically view the Cooler Box as a secondary option, you can fill the Feed Box with non-perishable items like Honey or Cotton Candy. Arrange these in single-item slots. Pals consume food from the Feed Box starting from the left side, so place your primary perishable food there. As the Feed Box fills with non-perishables, Pals will be more inclined to start using the Cooler Box for other foods.
