As the Spring Split approaches, the LEC has announced some major changes to how they will approach broadcasting games during the Regular Season. We will be taking a look at how these changes could potentially affect the overall fanbase and whether they are warranted in the first place.

Given the current schedule and broadcast of the Regular Season, we are expecting to see 5 matches per day between all 10 of the teams that will compete during the LEC Spring 2024 Split.

As recently announced by the LEC Commissioner Artem Bykov on Twitter, the Regular Season will approach drafting and broadcasting differently in comparison to the other LEC Splits.

Hope everyone’s excited for the return of the LEC this weekend! I wanted to provide you all with an update ahead of the split to let you know that we are implementing pre-recorded drafting for the Regular Season of Spring.

It seems that the goal of this change is to reduce friction and waiting between matches so that fans can get into the action much faster and watch their favorite players give it their all.

We decided to implement this change to reduce the transition times from game to game, which we know is something many fans have been asking for.

Ultimately this is a similar approach as the LCS took during the LCS Winter 2024 Split and it seems a lot of fans shared very positive feedback. However, it is uncertain how this will transition to the LEC stage.

Ultimately, this will be only tested out for the Regular Season, meaning that only Bo1s will be affected to not only make much smoother transitions between games, but also allow the players more time to prepare for their upcoming matches while onstage.

It is nice to see that Artem Bykov is also open to feedback to see whether this change was warranted.

Please do let us know what you think of the pacing as the split progresses, we always appreciate your feedback. For the Playoffs, we will return to live drafting, as we did for the Winter Split.

There are some concerns about whether this change will hinder the active fan participation and hype from the Arena itself as that has also helped build up even more excitement for the Regular Season with fans cheering on their favorite teams.

I appreciate your feedback. I'll discuss with the team how can we make sure that the engagement with the fans at the Arena still shows on the broadcast (I'm a big fan of it personally), I don't think that the two must be mutually exclusive.

All in all, it is early to decide whether this will affect the LEC experience positively or negatively, however, it is refreshing to see that the teams behind the LEC are always looking at ways to innovate or optimize the viewing experience so that we can all appreciate the esports competition.

Should there be any updates to this change, we will make sure to report it accordingly. Best of luck to all of the teams that will compete during the LEC Spring 2024 Split and may we see even more bangers this time around.
