Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Plot & Release Date
The remake of Lilo & Stitch is scheduled to be officially released in theaters on May 23, 2025, and we're all excited to see how the producers have designed the new version of Stitch. However, confirming the day of the launch isn't the only information we got; Disney Animation recently dropped a teaser for Lilo & Stitch.
Even though the video is only 33 seconds long, it gives us an idea of what we can expect to see on the big screen after the movie gets released. Fans were especially concerned about the way Stitch would look in the live-action version, but as we saw in the teaser, he's just as chaotic and cute as we anticipated.
Like other remakes, Lilo & Stitch will mirror the plot of the 2002 animation, following the story of Lilo, the young Hawaiian girl living with her older sister called Nani. One day, they decide to go to the local shelter and get a dog because Lilo doesn't have many friends and often feels lonely. However, instead of a regular pet, they take Stitch, an alien experiment who wants to destroy everything in his way.
Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Teaser
As mentioned above, Disney Animation dropped the first official teaser for Lilo & Stitch on November 15, 2024, and fans were glad to see Stitch pop up on the screen in his whole fluffy glory. However, this isn't the first time that we get to see the alien. The first poster for the film was published on November 22, 2023. Thankfully, the character design remained almost the same as it was back then, only with better teeth and softer fur.
In the trailer, we see Stitch walking around on the beach and happily destroying a sandcatsle. This is a reference to the original animation, where Stitch builds a replica of San Francisco in Lilo's room and ruins it. It's important to mention that the live-action remake's filming process is now completely done as well, since it wrapped in March 2024 in Hawaii.

Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Cast
Although there are some cast members that still need to be confirmed, most of them are already in the official lists, and they are ready to shine. The star of the movie will be Maia Kealoha, who will take on the role of Lilo. Sydney Agudong will step into the shoes of her older sister Nani, and Kaipo Dudoit will play David, Nani's crush. Initially, Kahiau Machado was supposed to portray David, but after some videos of him using racial slurs resurfaced, the cast list went through a little update.
The rest of the cast includes, but is not limited to, Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen, and Zach Galifianakis, who will play Cobra Bubbles, Pleakley, and Jumba, respectively. Last, but not least, Chris Sanders, who is the original voice of Stitch, will return for the same role, along with Amy Hill, who will become Tutu, a new character that we haven't seen before.
