This tier list will examine some of the most-played League of Legends champions in the top lane. Keep in mind that this is for Emerald+ divisions.
- S-Tier: The best champions you can use to ensure you are always victorious.
- A-Tier: Great options but lacking just slightly either in terms of damage or utility.
- B-Tier: Viable and reliable in most situations, you can manage rather decently.
- C-Tier: Although they can be somewhat decent, you are better off with other picks.
- D-Tier: You should avoid playing these champions as much as possible.
NOTE: Although this tier list strives to be as objective as possible in terms of viability, you should not limit yourself to strictly adhere to this list, but rather experiment and see which champion feels fun to play with.

S-Tier Top Lane Champions
Darius is continuing to dominate the top lane due to his extremely punishing laning phase, coupled with his incredible solo kill capabilities.
PROS:
- Execute mechanic
- Juggernaut playstyle
- Great laning phase
CONS:
- Lack of mobility and hard CC
Aatrox has once again become a concern for players in the top lane as his laning phase poses quite the threat in terms of solo kill potential. Not only is his healing stronger by abusing Sundered Sky, but his team fighting can be quite menacing if you are able to get the upper hand in objective fights.
PROS:
- Great sustain
- Amazing damage
- Enhanced mobility and CC
CONS:
- Easy to pick up, difficult to master
Camille has been shining bright ever since Riot nerfed her as an aggressive playmaking support. Now she reigns supreme in the top lane not only due to her oppressive split-pushing potential but also her amazing engage capabilities.
PROS:
- Incredible laning phase
- Superb damage
- Can apply a lot of pressure on the map
CONS:
- Has some annoying counters

Sett has made it back to the top lane following a long period of a rather underwhelming win rate, but he has now once again become quite the formidable foe.
PROS
- High damage
- Innate tankiness
- Great laning phase

Illaoi is seeing a lot more play recently and given the changes to her tentacles, she can be far more efficient with her E poke.
PROS
- High damage
- Innate tankiness
- Amazing in team fights
CONS
- Lack of mobility and CC
Irelia has seen some minor buffs, making her viable in the top lane once more. If you are looking for a flashy duelist, then make sure to give her a try and dominate your opponent in style.
PROS
- Great 1v1 potential
- Late-game monster
CONS
- Can struggle against tanky comps

Mordekaiser is here to stay as his top lane presence is more than formidable given how oppressive his kit can be during the laning phase.
PROS
- Great team fighting due to his ultimate
- Good laning phase
CONS
- Lack of mobility
Fiora has remained a monster no matter the meta or patch as her kit coupled with the new items that were added in Season 14 make her quite the annoying champion to lane against.
PROS
- Incredible damage
- Amazing split pushing
- Annoying poke
CONS
- Difficult to master
Malphite is your go-to anti-AD tank as your survivability, poke and impactful ultimate help you become a constant threat in the game.
PROS
- Incredible tankiness
- Great CC
- Reliable laning phase
CONS
- May have mana problems if you opt for a tankier build

A-Tier Top Lane Champions
Ornn is a very solid frontline with a great kit built around teamfighting, coupled with a relatively easy laning phase.
Kennen is a great pick if you are looking to help out your team in team fights due to his insane AP damage as well as playmaking potential.
You can opt for Quinn when you want to annoy your opponent as her roaming kit allows you to quickly clear waves and look for gank opportunities.

Riven can bring a lot to the table in terms of damage, but her kit does require you to master animation canceling and weaving in as many auto-attacks as possible in her combos.
Singed is in a decent spot, but you will need to learn how to proxy waves to annoy the enemy laner as much as possible.
Although Kayle is an early-game minion, her scaling can be quite punishing if left unchecked.

Shen is as reliable as it gets when it comes to tanks, and thanks to his global ultimate, you can easily decide skirmishes and objective fights.
Some onetricks are popularizing Warwick as a toplaner as you can go for the cheeky Barrier strat to catch opponents off-guard.
Olaf is a great pick into CC-heavy comps so you can run down the enemy carries, however, you will need a lot of help from your team to follow up your dives.

B-Tier Top Lane Champions
The troll king has a relatively good win rate as you can farm quite efficiently once you get a Tiamat, and his kit is great for early-game skirmishes.
Nasus saw some nerfs so it is only normal to see him fall down the list, but he can still be quite the powerhouse, especially in low-ELO games.
Sion is doing decently in solo queue as well. Although the changes to death timers heavily impacted his "iconic" playstyle, you can still get some mileage out of him.

Renekton can be very solid if you establish an early-game lead, however, be aware that come late game you are not as strong as other champions.
Although you might be strong in Black Myth: Wukong, on the Rift you can see some underwhelming results, depending on your matchup.
Gnar excels in competitive play, but his passive makes it difficult to coordinate with your team to effectively utilize it in team fights.

C-Tier Top Lane Champions
Vayne is unable to keep up with the S-tier champions on this list, which is why you will seldom get the chance to efficiently maximize her damage.
Teemo is simply an annoying Yordle that can easily be countered, however, you can still get a wining lane against a squishy champion.
As always, GP has suffered to be a meta pick due to his difficult-to-master kit, and hard to land barrel combos.
Dr. Mundo is relatively weak in the current meta, but if you have no other frontline options, then you go for this beefcake.

D-Tier Top Lane Champions
It seems K'Sante is stuck in ELO Hell given how much Riot have nerfed him into the ground, and despite several reworks it is still impossible to balance him.
Jayce cannot reliably dish out enough damage to warrant his mechanically intensive playstyle and combos.
Vladimir was finally nerfed as his healing was too much to handle. Although players are still complaining that he can be quite strong, it seems that the majority of the player base have deemed him very weak.
Smolder saw some pretty heavy nerfs, making him outright useless in the top lane. You can literally pick any other top laner and you will have a bigger chance of winning your game.
