In Manor Lords, everything is a learning experience until you figure it all out. From hiring mercenaries to buying livestock, you will have to work out what to do for yourself. Manor Lords gives you the option to burn your fields and it isn’t exactly clear what that will achieve. Why would you set fire to your crops? Will it help? Don’t worry if you don’t know. That’s what we are here for!
What Does Burn Field Do in Manor Lords?
As you can imagine, burning a field will set fire to your crops. If you want to start the planting system over or want to put your fields to fallow but have something growing, sometimes your only option is to burn it. If you have a few crops in your fields and a lot of empty space, then it is better to set fire to whatever is there and let the soil fertility increase.
You might also have some sheep that need a pasture but some plants are growing on the land that you don’t care about. Burning the field will clear away anything in the way and you can set the land to fallow. If you have the Fertilization development to enable your people to build a fence around the fields, your animals can graze peacefully. This will also speed up the soil fertility increase because of the sheep’s droppings.

Does Burning Fields Increase Soil Fertility?
Sadly, soil fertility does not increase if you burn your fields. Maybe at some point in the future, Slavic Magic will change this but for now, the only use for setting fire to your crops is to make room for something else. Leaving the fields to fallow remains the only way to increase the fertility of your soil.
That’s everything you need to know about burning your fields in Manor Lords. Make sure you don’t go around burning your precious crops unless you have no other option. I hope this helps. Check out our other guides on Manor Lords below!
