If you go to the Nord Mines well-prepared for this face-off, you'll be triumphant, sporting a new sword as a reward! The Fire Dragon Mauna in Metaphor: ReFantazio has certain weaknesses you can exploit, and it pays off to know them. Here's our guide on how to beat the sleeping dragon.

Rank Up Mage Archetype

We recommend that you face this battle when your Mage Archetype is leveled up to Rank 2. That's because only the Mage Archetype has access to a certain Elemental attack effect that the dragon is weak to:

Blizz

Cost: 4 MP
Archetypes: Mage
Deals weak magic Ice damage to one enemy.

Exploit Ice Weakness

Once you unlock Blizz, you'll be able to unlock more Ice attacks you can deal with your Mage, or in Synthesis with other Archetypes for even more power! Blizz is also handy because it can win you an extra Press Turn.

In case you don't have Blizz, you can purchase Ice Chunks from Gallinago the Peddler at the Nord Mines Storehouse. They cost 270 Reeves each and deal 100 damage per chunk. If you purchase about 5, it should be enough to deal with the dragon, granted they'll give you extra Turns.

Use Healing Skills

If you have a Seeker or a Healer on your team, they have access to Recovery skills that could potentially save your life. We recommend you either stock up on Healing items, or make sure to have a Seeker or Healer for these abilities:

Dei

Cost: 4 MP
Archetypes: Seeker
Weak HP recovery for one ally.

Medi

Cost: 10 MP
Archetypes: Healer
Weak HP recovery for all allies.

Protect Rows

Since the dragon attacks with a Tail Swipe that deals damage to a row of your team, focus your efforts on raising their defense, watching their health, and making sure that everyone is in the right place in the formation.

Victory Reward

Once you defeat the dragon in Nord Mines, you'll receive:

Dragon's Indignation Sword
Grand Iron
Onyx
Glossy Fur
