Path of Exile 2 is the newest addition to the Path of Exile IP and the newest game to be released by Grinding Gear Games. It markets itself as a next-generation free-to-play action RPG that will feature a co-op function for up to 6 players. But what does that mean for offline play? Although the game’s co-op is entirely optional and you can choose to play through the whole game on your own, however, the thing to note here is that you will always have to be connected to Grinding Gear Games in order to do so.

Can You Play Path of Exile 2 Offline?
No, unfortunately, you will not be able to play Path of Exile 2 offline. While the game can be cleared by yourself, it does not feature offline play, and you will be required to be connected to the internet regardless if you decide to play on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. The game requires a constant internet connection so that you can access Grinding Gear Games’ servers. The servers are responsible for everything you do in Path of Exile 2, be it progressing through the campaign, leveling your characters, or even getting new loot, so you will have to constantly have a stable connection to be able to enjoy the game.

Is This a Dealbreaker?
Why not being able to play offline can be a dealbreaker for some, Path of Exile has never offered offline play, even in its first iteration of the game. So although some might have expected the sequel to include it, others, who have been following the game religiously throughout the years, are already familiar with how Path of Exile works and are more than content with that. While we are sacrificing the offline availability of the game, we will also be getting the game entirely for free when it fully releases outside of Early Access.
So while we won’t be able to play it offline, a ton more people will be able to enjoy it, due to not having to spend upwards of $40-50 to purchase the game. Given the shift in gaming over the last couple of years, a ton of games that come out nowadays do not feature offline availability and require you to be connected to the internet in one way or another, so although we can see offline availability being a drawback for some, most will likely not pay it much notice.
