The first big Starfield patch of 2024 has finally been revealed, and players are excited to see what the future holds for the game. Starfield launched in a rocky state, with numerous game-breaking and, frankly, funny bugs and glitches, and since then Bethesda has been trying their best to iron them out. In a series of tweets, they have outlined all of the major changes they have planned for the game in their first big update on January 17th. Let's take a look at what Starfield changes Bethesda has been working on and if they are able to get the game into a stable position ahead of the release of their first expansion pack later this year.

Starfield January 17 Patch Notes Details
In a series of tweets on January 12th, Bethesda revealed that the first significant Starfield update of 2024 is set to launch on January 17th. This update aims to fix many issues players have had with the game over the last few months, including hundreds of bug fixes, stability improvements, as well as the infamous Eye of the Storm quest that could block players from progressing the story. Here is the full list of changes coming to Starfield next week:
Next week, on January 17, we’ll be putting our biggest Starfield update yet into Steam Beta with over 100 fixes and improvements, with a planned release date for all players two weeks later.
Quest Fixes
A numerous amount of quest issues have reportedly been fixed, the big outlier for which has been Eye of the Storm. Many players have voiced their complaints about this quest not working properly and blocking them from progressing through the game.

This update contains a multitude of fixes to Quests. Eye of the Storm issues such as being unable to dock with the Legacy or data transfer not starting, and Temples not showing up in Into the Unknown, will no longer prevent Constellation from exploring the cosmos.

Stability Improvements and Textures
The new patch is also going to make a lot of improvements on graphical textures, lighting, and shadows. General stability improvements will also be present. Here is a picture of the in-game character creator before and after these changes:

Additionally, this update brings stability improvements and numerous graphic improvements ranging from additional widescreen support to improved textures, lighting, and shadows.

Miscellaneous
Other small changes and tweaks, such as sun disk geometry, outpost and ship fixes are also going to be applied to Starfield. While these have not been gamebreaking, it's nice to see more polish being added to some of the rougher edges of the game. Here is the full tweet by Bethesda:
Other fixes and improvements include sun disk geometry, planet ring shadows, bulldozed objects reappearing when returning to an Outpost, ship hatches marked inaccessible, and another fix for asteroids following ships. The full update notes will be posted next week when the Steam Beta is released!
