While this prompt is on your screen you can press the 'A' button and you will deal more damage and sometimes even chain multiple attacks. These timing-based hits are going to increase you effectiveness in combat by a wide margin.

This tip also applies while you are being attacked by enemies. Pressing the 'A' button at the time of the prompt will reduce the damage you take from that hit. Use this mechanic to your advantage to make your battles smoother in Super Mario RPG.

2. Equip The Signal Ring:

It's no surprise that an RPG of this scale is going to be filled with secrets. In Super Mario RPG you are going to be able to find a great amount of hidden chests throughout the game. These chests are often in the air and invisible, so you will need to find the correct spot to jump and find them.

You can get this item by speaking to the Toad at the basement of the Mushroom Kingdom Item Shop. 3. How Stats Work:

While Super Mario RPG does not have a confusing amount of different stats, it is still important to know what they do and how they can help you progress throughout the game. In Super Mario RPG, your enemies are going to have weaknesses to different attacks and elements. While there isn't a way to check what each enemy is vulnerable to, experimenting with a wide array of attacks is a good way to find their weak spot. Once you have found it, you can abuse it in order to deal a lot more damage.
