There were also a few plot twists that left us all on edge and confused about what was happening with Seirei and who the real culprit might be. The Apothecary Diaries Episode 20: Recap

After feeling better, Maomao tells Jinshi about how she found out the pillar of the altar would fall. She suspects that someone had deliberately put weaker metal parts in the pillar that would break as soon as they got heated.

This incident took a much worse turn when Maomao found out that Suirei, her prime suspect, had been found dead. However, Maomao was quick to realize the well-thought-out plan of Suirei and any allies that she had.

It turns out that Suirei drank the resurrection medicine she told Maomao about. This allowed her to pretend to be dead for a while until she could safely escape the coffin she was put in. If the body that was put in the coffin was cremated, their plan would have been successful. This turn of events got Maomao super excited to find Suirei, unfold the full truth, and learn how to prepare the resurrection medicine.

We finally got to know more about Jinshi. It turns out he is nineteen years old but he has been pretending to be older for the last five years. In order to achieve the appearance of a 24-year-old eunuch, he has been drinking a medicine that suppresses his manhood.

Later in the episode, we find out that Lady Gyokuyo might be pregnant again. Jinshi gives Maomao the task to go and be Lady Gyokuyo's food taster which is great for her since she can't come across Lakan there.

The episode ends with the spread of the rumor that one of the Three Princesses has been bought out.
