The fifth episode of The Boys Season 4 was filled with funny moments and conflicts, but most of all, we saw some vital character relationships develop. While some alliances were made, other characters, like Victoria Neuman, reunited with close ones. Furthermore, we saw important developments regarding the Supe-killing virus that will play a vital role later on in the show. Check out all the main events in Episode 5 below!

Hughie's Father Becomes Feral After Being Revived with Compound V
Last week, we saw Hughie's mom secretly inject his father with Compound V, and we all knew this was going to end badly. Although he acted very well at first, joking around and talking about the good old times with his family, we soon saw him forget things that happened moments ago. Everything went downhill when he suddenly disappeared from his hospital bed. Hughie and his mom found him holding someone's heart and a dead body lying next to him. From this point on, Hugh went berserk, teleporting through walls and killing anyone who stood in his way.
Due to his negative response to Compound V, Hugh did not remember his son and ex-wife, or at least not his recent memories with them, and saw them as a threat. Hughie managed to calm down his dad and was then forced to euthanize him. It was a very sad turn of events. This just showed us how bad Compound V is and that trying to go against nature does not end well.

First Encounter with the Super-Killing Virus
Both in Gen V and in Season 4 of The Boys, we've heard that a Supe-Killing virus is being created. In Episode 5, Butcher convinced the rest of the group to let Stan Edgar out of jail so that he could help them get a hold of the virus that is in Victoria's possession.
After they go to his farm, they see a whole lab in his house devoted to testing the virus. It turns out they are not alone, as Victoria appears. However, all of them are forced to work together since all the scientists who were in that lab are gone. Together they start looking for them but soon come across V'd up chickens and sheep that are a much bigger threat than you would think.
When running away from these feral, blood-spilling animals, they find Neuman's lover Sameer, who is also the lead scientist in the lab. After a lot of fighting between the characters, they finally decide to use their last dose of the virus to poison a corpse and feed it to the sheep so they would die. The virus was very quickly transmitted, although it can only be passed down through bodily fluids.

Ashley and A-Train Cooperate Against Homelander
At Vought, tensions are also rising as Sage is still struggling to find out who leaked the footage from Crime Analytics. However, it's pretty obvious that she has her eyes on A-Train, which makes him confess to Ashley and force her to help him.
After being demoted, Ashley seems to have become less "dominant" in her relationship, and her boyfriend dumps her out of nowhere. That was her final straw; she accused him of being the leak and let him get killed by the rest of The Seven.
It seems that A-Train and Ashley will keep their alliance up from now on, but will they actually start plotting against Homelander?

Ryan Slowly Turning into Homelander
Contrary to what we thought, instead of drifting apart from each other, Homelander and Ryan's relationship seems to be getting stronger. It appears that after his visit to the lab, Homelander learned from his past mistakes and found a better way of manipulating Ryan. In Episode 5, we see Homelander kinder than ever before. The weirdest thing is that, unlike other times, he did seem genuine. He allowed Ryan to decide whether he wanted to film a movie or not while showing him how easy it is to make people do anything he wants.
Ryan seems to be quickly following in Homelander's footsteps. Even though he said he wanted to help people, he had fun seeing the movie director suffer from embarrassment and the assistants' hits. Homelander now knows how to control Ryan and make him just like him.

Evil Butcher is Back
So far this season, we have seen Keppler trying to get to Butcher and make him become more violent and merciless in his ways of defeating the Supes. Although Butcher seems determined to stick with his boys and do things their way, at the end of the episode, we find out this is not really the case. Earlier, when running away from the V'd up animals, Victoria Neuman's lover Sameer was nowhere to be seen, so everyone thought he was killed by the sheep. However, at the end of the episode, Butcher brings Keppler to a building where he has kidnapped and locked up Sameer so he can use him to recreate the virus. The shocking part is that, in order to keep him unable to move, Butcher cut off Sameer's leg. With a mischievous smile, Butcher looks at Keppler, which is a clear sign that the old Butcher is back and is not going anywhere.
We don't know how far Butcher will go, but his actions are already pretty shocking. This is very bad timing for him to have a change of character, as Homelander and Ryan are getting closer, and he might not be able to get Ryan on his side anymore.
