Unfortunately, no release date or even release window was indicated in the leaked materials. And with no official announcement yet, it’s anyone’s guess when we’ll be able to get our hands on the finished game.

However, the level of polish shown in the leaked footage suggests The Sims 5 is quite far along in development. A late 2024 or 2025 release seems quite plausible based on typical Sims game development cycles. But EA could always surprise fans with an earlier launch. You should take this possible release window with a grain of salt.

This is purely speculation as we do not have concrete information so far about the release date of The Sims 5.

Cross-Platform Play

The Sims 5 Platform

One of the most exciting features showcased in the leaked footage is cross-platform play between PC and mobile. This would allow players to build relationships and narratives between Sims on different platforms seamlessly. The ability to pick up your Sims life from your computer and continue it on the go on your phone or tablet opens up a wealth of possibilities.

What Platforms Will It Be On?

Given the cross-platform play features, it’s safe to assume The Sims 5 will launch on PC, iOS, and Android devices. The footage showed both desktop and mobile gameplay. What’s less clear is whether console versions are in the works. The Sims 4 never made it to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, so console support for the sequel remains questionable.

According to reports, The Sims 5 will make use of the Unreal Engine rather than the Frostbite Engine used in previous entries. This could allow Maxis to truly push the boundaries of what’s possible in a Sims game in terms of graphics, physics, AI behavior, and more. The shift to Unreal Engine 4 is an exciting one for longtime fans eager to see the series continue to evolve.

Customization & Build Mode

The leaked footage provides a glimpse at The Sims 5’s Create-A-Sim and Build Mode tools. The customization looks to be deeper than ever, with more options to intricately design your perfect Sims. Meanwhile, the Build Mode footage shows the ability to not only design interior spaces, but also thorough landscaping outdoors.

Improved Sims AI

The Sims 5 Improved AI

One of the common criticisms of previous Sims games is the shallowness of the Sims themselves in terms of their behavior and interactions.

  • The leaked videos show Sims having more dynamic conversations, and multi-tasking interactions like watching TV while eating and reacting to events happening around them.
  • This could signal vastly improved AI and animations in The Sims 5.

The Future of Sims Gaming

While the leaked footage provides merely a snapshot of a work-in-progress build, it does seem to suggest an exciting path forward for the beloved franchise. Cross-platform play, enhanced customization, and smarter Sims could take the addicting life simulation gameplay to new heights. Now fans eagerly await EA’s official announcement to learn more about what The Sims 5 has in store.
