Sul Sul Simmers! The community is quick to react to brand-new Project Rene leaks, and we've all got some questions. After EA confirmed that The Sims 5 is not happening and that Project Rene will most likely be a free-to-play, multiplayer experience, we are all thinking in different directions, trying to piece together something about this mysterious upcoming Sims game. What was leaked definitely surprised us all, to say the least.

Project Rene Leaks Confuse The Sims Fans
Right off the bat, we should have expected that Project Rene might just be a lovechild of The Sims Mobile and the deceased The Sims Online, or that the chances are big. Kate Gordman, EA’s vice president and general manager of The Sims franchise, talked about their "learnings" from the failed MMOG, expressing that she knows there's room for development and fans are eager to get their Sims multiplayer experience done right.
From what we see, however, we can assume that EA might deviate vastly from what was originally teased for Project Rene to be. Several fans of the franchise took it to X to compare the earlier images of Project Rene with the alleged leaks, noting the drastic drop in quality of the image as well as the mobile-friendly interface.
I can’t believe my eyes that Project Rene has switched its course from being a promising successor of the Sims 4 to some ugly ass mobile game that will be another cash grab full of ads.

If this is what Project Rene has taken shape as, we can see there's a to-do list with a task reward system, a cafe you can work in, some type of in-game currency that might or might not involve micro-transactions, a chat box, and every setup for Project Rene to turn out to be a mobile game. Most fans would consider this a downscale, and even go as far as to theorize that because of the images we had in the beginning, EA might have decided to overall scrap Project Rene and start it from scratch.
You work at a cafe in the sims mobile. This literally just feels like a sims mobile port. I’m so confused.

The community is having a hard time making sense of these leaks, and fans don't know if there are two versions of Project Rene or if the first snapshots were from a version that's now scrapped, but in any case, everyone now sees how Project Rene is not The Sims 5.
EA stated their intentions by expressing their desire to turn The Sims 4 into what The Sims 5 would have been, but now the community feels like Project Rene could turn out to be a major downfall for the franchise as a whole. Considering strong competitors like inZOI and Paralives are coming out for their crown, we hope that Project Rene develops far beyond what we can observe in these alleged leaks.
How disappointing. I can’t believe life by you was canceled. This is just a reskin of sims mobile. I wonder if the survey that went out to simmers about future packs is all for .. whatever this game will be.

Whether Project René will be a mobile or console game, or whether these snapshots are about to be confirmed, we can only hope that this is the beginning stage of something that won't just be The Sims Mobile: The Sequel. What we can gather from this whole ordeal is that either EA needs to raise their expectations or fans need to lower their expectations. Either way, what a conundrum.
