Valorant Champions Tour Changes

According to Riot Games, the 2024 season was short and had a tight turnaround between competitions, which resulted in a difficult cadence for top-performing teams making it to global events and pushed lower-performing teams out of contention too early in the year. That's why some necessary changes were introduced, such as the inclusion of 12 teams in total. This will allow better formats to take place. Here's what Riot had to say on the matter:

At the top of the season, kickoff will feature a full 12-team double-elimination bracket format, with the top 4 teams from the previous year reaching round 2. As we move into the main part of the season, we aim to give all teams a healthy baseline number of matches while maximizing the number of exciting and high-stakes matches for the best-performing teams.

Moreover, there will be a 12.5% increase in the number of total matches at International Leagues in 2025, with 12 matches per team. The maximum will be 23 before the global events begin.

Valorant Champions Tour New Point System

As per usual, Championship Points will be distributed at every Stage, but the deeper point distribution at Masters and Playoffs will be self-contained, which will allow all teams to get a fresh start midway through the Championship. Regular season matches will still grant 1 Point per win, and major events will reward multiple teams.

The International League Playoffs and Kickoff will give Points to the top 4 teams, and Masters Bangkok and Toronto will recognize the ones that gathered the most. Additionally, 2 teams from Stage 2 Playoffs and 2 from Championship Points will qualify.

Every stage will divide the teams into two groups of six, and the top 4 will qualify for the Playoffs. Last, but not least, the Playoffs will expand to 8 teams, which means that the Season will be longer than usual, and it will follow a double-elimination format.

Master Bangkok

  • It will start with an 8-team swiss stage followed by a 4-team double elimination playoffs.

Masters Toronto

  • It will start with an 8-team swiss stage (with the number one seed from each IL getting a bye to the next stage), followed by an 8-team double elimination playoffs.

Champions

  • It will start with a Group Stage featuring four 4-team groups, followed by an 8-team double elimination playoffs.
