When she received the news about her upcoming role, Ariana posted a story on Instagram, stating that she is putting a temporary pin in all things that are not Wicked for now, meaning that she needs to really concentrate if she wants to get this right. Just the audition took her 6 months of preparation alongside the acting and voice coaches Nancy Banks and Eric Vetro.

Grande shared that she grew up singing the songs from the musical in the car, and she even met Kristin Chenoweth, the original actress who took the role of Glinda. The character has had a special place in Ariana's heart for a long time, and with her outstanding performance, she proved that she's worthy of the trust all fans and producers had in her.

Many fans and even Ariana Grande herself believe that she manifested receiving the role of Glinda in 2020 when she spoke to Marc Platt about potentially auditioning for Wicked when the time comes. Moreover, Grande said in an interview that she was following Platt's work for over 10 years, waiting for the audition to become possible. Jon M. Chu even tested the singer multiple times before her attempt to take part in the movie.

The director mentioned that he even asked her to leave one of the auditions and told her to get rid of her makeup so she can start existing as Glinda instead of Grande. The star shared that all of her time was dedicated to portraying Glinda as perfectly as possible while making sure that her voice is trained to handle Glinda's opera soprano.
