Wicked Plot

The synopsis of Wicked states that the movie is the untold story of the witches of Oz: Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power. In the trailer, we actually witness the strength of this character, and not only in terms of magical abilities. Living in a society that does everything in its power to bring you down and show you that you're not welcome is quite difficult, especially considering that the other protagonist, Glinda, is extremely unpleasant. Well, at least in the beginning.

Later, we come to find out that Glinda isn't that bad, and she has the potential to find kindness and understanding in her heart. The hate between the two main characters quickly blossoms into a true friendship, even though their lives are set to go on different paths. As far as the ending is concerned, we won't spoil it, and we'll let you see it for yourself.

Wicked Official Trailer & Release Date

The official trailer for Wicked has been around for a while now, as it was released around six months ago, but it has gathered an astonishing 11 million views on YouTube. The video is 3 minutes and 32 seconds long, giving us a good look at the story that we can expect to see in theaters once the title reaches the big screen. The second chapter, titled Wicked: Part 2, is a chance to fully develop the story without cutting any characters or making important compromises, according to the director Jon M. Chu.

Wicked is based on the 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West written by Gregory Maguire and inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel that everybody has heard about: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Although the new movie already premiered in Sydney, Australia, on November 3, 2024, the United States won't be able to see it until November 22, 2024.

Wicked Cast

Fans are more than excited to see Ariana Grande bringing her vocal talent to the big screen and stepping into the shoes of Glinda, one of the most controversial characters in Wicked. Moreover, we'll get to witness Cynthia Erivo take the role of Elphaba Thropp. She is the outcast who's the exact opposite of Glinda. The latter is popular, loved, rich, and beautiful, while Elphaba is completely different. Apart from the two main characters, we'll see Michelle Yeoh playing Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

One of our favorite actors, who also starred in Game of Thrones, will make an appearance. His name is Peter Dinklage, and he'll portray Doctor Dillamond. The rest of the cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode. Have fun and stay tuned; the best is yet to come!
