WoW Cataclysm Classic Guide: Fire Mage BiS Pre-Raid Gear

With World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic now live, many players are gearing up their characters to try out the end-game content. As with previous Classic launches, players will not have complete access to all of the raids, but rather, Cataclysm Classic will deploy all of the instances in phases, allowing for slower and more casual players to catch up. 

Given the fact that not everyone got to experience Cataclysm, some newer players will be rather clueless as to how to approach gearing as Blizzard implemented a lot of changes in this expansion, ultimately redefining which stats are important depending on your role and class. With that being said, we will take a look at the best gear for your Fire Mage so you can top the DPS charts with ease.

This guide will focus on Wowhead's extensive research to provide a simple and straightforward way for newer players to quickly identify which items to pursue as well as how to build their Fire Mages before raids become available in Cataclysm Classic.

WoW Cataclysm Classic Fire Mage Rotation and Cooldowns

There are several rotations that you will need to use depending on the encounter. We will go through all of the major abilities you should prioritize using to ensure your DPS and mana are sustained accordingly.

Standard Rotation

1. Pre-Cast Pyroblast,
2. Keep up Living Bomb, but let it explode
3. Spam Fireball,
4. Instant cast Pyroblast after Improved Hot Streak trigger
5. Cast Combustion if you have any of the DoTs active: Pyroblast, Living Bomb and Ignite after its just been refreshed 
6. Cast Flame Orb if you have to move or you have cast Combustion
7. Use Scorch during movement if your other instant casts are on cooldown

Short AoE Encounter

1. Cast Flame Orb,
2. Cast Blast Wave,
3. Cast Dragon's Breath,
4. Cast Flamestrike,
5. If you get Impact, cast Fire Blast on the target with the highest Ignite 

Longer AoE Encounter

1. Cast Living Bomb on up to three targets,
2. Cast Flame Orb,
3. Cast Blast Wave with Flamestrike via Improved Flamestrike
4. Cast Dragon's Breath,
5. Cast Combustion if Ignite has just been refreshed or Living Bomb is up on said target 
6. If you get Impact, Fire Blast on the target with the most DoT effects 

Important Cooldowns

• Combustion
• Mirror Image
• Invisibility
• Time Warp
