Given the experimental nature of Season of Discovery, the devs have decided to add an additional boss to the iconic Molten Core raid. Not only do players have access to much difficult fights thanks to the new Heat system, but an entirely new encounter has been introduced to further spice things up.
NOTE: You can only fight this optional boss by clearing the raid on Heat 3 difficulty.
With that in mind, we will go over everything you need to know before you face the new Molten Core boss in the MC raid. Huge thanks to Wowhead for the provided information.

WoW SoD Molten Core Boss Strategy
We will go over some keypoints you need to keep in mind when tackling this boss as it will require some coordination and preparation to ensure your victory. Here are the major takeaways:
- Split into 2 groups so you can more efficiently move out of Meteors and handle Primal Flame Elementals (you will need to protect the friendly Hydraxian Firefighter NPCs)
- Two tanks are required to deal with the boss and adds it spawns as there is also a stacking debuff Melt Armor
- The boss deals fire damage whilst the adds do physical damage
- Taunting Primal Flame Elementals is crucial to ensure maximum AoE damage so any player with a taunt will need to contribute as well as the Off tanks will have to take care of the packs
- Use CC when dealing with the spawned adds
- Heart of Cinder and Heart of Ash will be cast on random players so they will need to touch to remove the debuffs.
- Raids usually have two pre-assigned spots when the debuffs are placed: You will need to either stand below the boss in the lava (you will take fire damage), and on top of the platform's middle point between the two stacking groups

WoW SoD Molten Core Boss Tips
We will also go over some helpful tips to help you clear the boss in one go:
Tanks
Tanks will primarily need to worry about the Primal Flame Elementals as well as care for Melt Armor stacks.
Melee
It is crucial to dodge Meteors and make sure to quickly run to the designated spots when you receive the Heart of Cinder or Heart of Ash debuffs. Always prioritize adds when they spawn (make sure to CC them if applicable), and use Greater Fire Protection Potion off cooldown.
Ranged
Optimize your instant casts and mobility when in danger of getting hit by a Meteor as well as when debuffed with either Heart of Cinder or Heart of Ash. Focus and CC adds and use consumables off cooldown as the fight can be quite challenging.
Healers
Save your healing cooldowns and make sure to watch out the melees health when adds spawn. Use consumables as often as possible and always keep an eye out for players with the Heart of Cinder or Heart of Ash debuff as they might opt to run into the lava to cleanse.
And that covers the basics so you are ready to tackle the boss head on. World of Warcraft Season of Discovery has been a hit and miss, but at least players are finally able to experience the Vanilla endgame through a different lense with new abilities, runes, gear and possibly more surprises coming down the line.
