Dungeons will be a great way of gaining XP and even getting some great items before you go to the 20-man Sunken Temple Raid. Blizzard has also revamped some of the dungeon loot you can get, possibly to make it easier for players to transition to raiding. Although some of the BiS items from Gnomeregan might still be sufficient for the level 50 raid, it wouldn't hurt to do some dungeons beforehand.

Blizzard has also changed some of the items you can get as drops from Maraudon, Zul'Farrak, and Blackrock Depths so they are better fitted to the current power spikes and overall game meta.
