World of Warcraft The War Within will feature a brand new way of acquiring gear and cosmetics in the form of Delves. This new form of adventuring will have players running into scenarios, very similar to those in Mists of Pandaria.
The developers have stated this content will give players to chance to acquire end-game loot as you will not be forced to complete raids to get tier sets so it will allow for some versatility and randomization for players who want to try their luck in the dark alcoves of the unknown.
With that being said, we will take a look at everything we know so far about Delves in the upcoming The War Within expansion.

How Delves Work in The War Within
Players will be able to enter specific Delves at any time by just approaching the entrance and an option will appear to enter the Delve. You can complete Delves either alone or with a party of up to 5 players. If you are not in a full group, you will also get Brann Bronzebeard as a companion who will help you complete objectives inside.
Inside the Delves, you will encounter rare mobs, treasure chests that grant you special powers, and even herb and mining nodes. You will advance further into the Delve by completing certain objectives. It seems the World of Warcraft devs want to encourage players to explore more and try out different scenarios as a way to break away from the monotonous end-game grind.
Once you reach the end of the Delve, you will face a boss who might vary in difficulty, however, it is still too early to tell how the strength is determined. Once the boss is defeated, you will gain access to a treasure vault holding some sweet loot inside. It seems that the higher level a Delve is, the more chests will spawn that require special keys to unlock.

Delves Currency in The War Within
It seems that players will also be able to collect a special currency inside Delves called Resonant Crystal that is used to buy cosmetic items from Sir Finley Mrgglton in Dornogal. Most probably, these cosmetics will be centered around Kobolds, and candles along with other cave-esque features or will allow you to customize the new flying mount that will be implemented in the next expansion.
And that is everything we know so far about Delves in World of Warcraft. Blizzard has uploaded a nice preview of what you need to know.
