One of the most important decisions you can make in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is which class you will play. You can choose from three different classes: the Mage, the Warrior, and the Rogue, each with a drastically different playstyle. These classes are also much more in-depth than they might appear, with each having three unique specializations that you can pick once you reach a certain level. All of this customization makes the game highly replayable, but what about your first run through the story? Many players enjoy the playstyle of a Mage in RPGs and might be wondering what the best specialization is in the game. In this article, we are going to rank the different Mage specializations from best to worst for Dragon Age: The Veilguard!

Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Best Mage Specializations Tier List
The Mage class has three different specializations that you can choose from: the Spellblade, the Death Caller, and the Evoker. Each of these can provide you with a different playstyle, and you can unlock them when you reach level 20. Here is how we rank these specializations based on their power level in combat, from best to worst:
#1 - Spellblade
The best Mage specialization is the Spellblade. The Spellblade is a mix of close-quarters melee attacks and devastating magic abilities, allowing you to quickly deal with large groups of enemies. This specialization has many ways to increase your mana sustain by attacking your enemies, which allows you to do a ton of damage even in longer combat situations. The Spellblade focuses mainly on Electricity damage, and if you can dodge enemy attacks and stay in combat without risking your life, you’ll be doing some of the highest damage possible in the game.

#2 - Death Caller
The Death Caller is an interesting specialization, as it’s basically a Necromancer without access to any summoning abilities. You’ll focus on using damage-over-time abilities that deal Necrotic damage, with many options for area-of-effect coverage. This specialization also has excellent sustain, with various life-steal abilities to restore health from enemies. While it doesn’t deal as much damage as the Spellblade, the Death Caller is much tankier, allowing you to go for a more glass-cannon approach for your companions. The class fantasy is also amazing, so be sure to give it a try!

#3 - Evoker
While the Evoker is last on our list, it’s still a viable option and can be very strong in the right circumstances. This specialization focuses more on crowd control by using Cold damage abilities to slow and stun enemies. Similar to the Saboteur from the Rogue class, most players prefer being the damage dealers rather than supports, as it’s often more satisfying to play. In terms of damage, the Evoker falls behind both the Death Caller and the Spellblade, with its main advantage being how effectively it can control large groups of enemies. Nonetheless, it’s still a viable option, and with the right companion and equipment setup, it can be a force to be reckoned with.
And that concludes our list of the best and worst Mage specializations in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Keep in mind that these rankings are based purely on how strong each of these specs feels to play, and even though some might be ranked lower than others, they’re still not that far apart in power.
