Many of the quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2 have multiple ends and contain choices you might not be aware of. Short-Sighted Ambition is one of these missions. You will have to help a merchant in Bakbattahl with his eyesight, find a rare grimoire, and then decide whether you want to stop him from ruining his life. All in a day's work for the Arisen.
How to Start Short-Sighted Ambition in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To begin the Short-Sighted Ambition quest in Dragon's Dogma 2, you will have to progress in the story until you travel to Bakbattahl. There is no need to complete any main missions in the city but you do need to have access to Battahl. Head towards the Mercantile Ward and look for Isaac’s Wares.
Buy one of the items available. It’s not important what you purchase because Isaac will give you the wrong thing, triggering a cutscene and the side quest. Isaac has been struggling with his eyesight ever since he started to read a grimoire called On the Transference of Souls. The shopkeeper and his wife will ask you to bring him a ripened quince as he believes it will help his eyes.

Where to Find Ripened Quince in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Quinces are a rare item in Dragon’s Dogma 2. On the west side of Battahl, you can find quince bushes in the desert. If you don’t fancy traveling to the desert, goblins and harpies frequently drop the required fruit so you can go on a killing spree.
If you find a quince that isn’t ripe, all you have to do is rest on a bench or at the inn for a little while and it will ripen. Having more than one in your inventory will speed up the process. You can also complete another quest if you prefer. Make sure you do not have a Pawn with the Logistician specialization in your party as they can turn the quince into dried fruit.
Head back to Isaac and give him the quince. The Short-Sighted Ambition quest isn’t complete yet because after a day has passed you will go back and talk to the shopkeeper. He will ask you to find the second volume of the grimoire that damaged his eyes. If you have watched or played a lot of fantasy, you should be able to tell that this isn’t going to end well.

Short-Sighted Ambition Second Grimoire Location in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Before you leave on your quest to find the second grimoire, Isaac’s daughter will approach you and ask you to help her put a stop to her father’s plan. This section of Short-Sighted Ambition is bugged and doesn’t appear for some players. If that is the case, it’s not a problem because you can still achieve the “good ending”.
Travel to Checkpoint Rest Town in Dragon's Dogma 2 for the next part of the Short-Sighted Ambition quest. If you want to speed up the journey, hop on an oxcart. You will find the second grimoire in Ibrahim’s Scrap Store.
If you want to achieve the “good ending” you need to ask Ibrahim to make a forgery. Return in a day to pick up the fake. Remember that the real grimoire is On the Transference of Souls 2 while the forgery is On the Transit of Souls 2. Don’t get them mixed up or you might give the wrong one to Isaac.

Which Grimoire Should You Give Isaac in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Upon your return to Bakbattahl, you will have a decision to make.
- If you give Isaac the real grimoire, he will perform a ritual that ends with his entire family dead.
- If you give Isaac the fake grimoire, the ritual will fail.
The first option is the “bad ending”. Isaac will shut down his shop and leave Bakbattahl. This will also close Ibrahim’s Scrap Store which can be a problem for future quests. Hugo, from the Off the Pilfered Path quest, can take over the store in Bakbattahl and Ibrahim will open up again.
You will receive 3000 XP and the Ring of Disfavor. You can also get the ring from Isaac’s wife if you talk to her before giving him anything.
The second option is the “good ending”. Isaac’s family survives and the shops stay open. You will receive 3000 XP and 16000 gold. In a few days, return and he will sell the grimoire's first volume.

Combine the two volumes, and you will receive the single-use spellbook for Celestial Paean. This is the Mage Maister’s Teachings ultimate spell. If you want to unlock it permanently, you will have to complete the Spellbound quest.
Whatever you decide, give the chosen grimoire to Isaac and face the consequences. There is no right or wrong choice. That’s everything you need to know about the Short-Sighted Ambition quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. I hope this walkthrough helps.
