Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is full of mini-games and side-quests. If you ever get bored of the main story, you can jump into a questline for better gear or to understand the world around you. If you are a completionist and want to see everything the game has to offer, then you will want to find the Protorelics.
Every major region in FF7 Rebirth has a questline that consists of four steps, known as Phenomenon Intel missions. In the Cosmo Canyon, each of these missions will have you playing a mini-game called Gears and Gambits.
Gears and Gambits in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is similar to Fort Condor in the Corel region but this time you will be deploying robots to defeat the enemy. Each of your robots is effective against a certain element, and the mini-game usefully shows you each enemy's weakness.

FF7 Rebirth: Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel 1: Avalanche HQ
The first intel mission is visible on your map automatically. Make your way to the location and start your first round in Gears and Gambits. Chadley will explain how the mini-game works in detail. It comes across as complicated, but use the loadout Chadley chose for you in the first mission.
It’s an easy first round. Prioritize the big enemy in the middle and you should be fine. The central enemy will perform a powerful slam attack if surrounded by more than three robots so don’t spawn too many.

FF7 Rebirth: Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel 2: Left Behind
Glide across Range 24 to reach the Phenomenon Intel mission. You will need to use your Gongaga Chocobo to get to the next round of Gear and Gambits so make sure you have picked Fango up.
Stay with the same tactics as you did in the first round and you shouldn’t have a problem. Use Chadley’s loadout again for now.
FF7 Rebirth: Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel 3: Memories of the Fallen
To access the next Phenomenon Intel mission, you need to access the platform where you can find the Capital Ruins Remnawave Tower. This round of Gears and Gambits will need a little tinkering with your robots or you can simply press auto-program to save time.

You can take the time and find the best loadout for you but this can make the mini-game seriously overcomplicated. All you have to do is make sure that your robots will prioritize flying units because King Flan will spawn airborne enemies this round. When you have dealt 33% damage to King Flan, his weakness will switch to fire. After 66%, it becomes weak to ice. Remember to focus on the weaknesses.
FF7 Rebirth: Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel 4: The River of Lights
Gain access to the final round of Gears and Gambits by gliding across Range 21. Before you start the mini-game, ensure Cloud has full health and has fire materia equipped.
For the final Phenomenon Intel mission, auto-program your robots to save time but make sure you equip their advanced gambits. This will boost their damage in battle. Select the Offensive Loadout for your Portal Skills and begin.
This round might take a little trial and error to get the right strategy. If you focus on King Flan’s weaknesses, it shouldn’t take too long. After dealing 33% damage to King Flan, he will become weak against ice. Then after 66% damage, he will be weak against lightning. Even if he heals himself, as long as you target his weaknesses, you will win.

Before you celebrate completing the four rounds of Gears and Gambits, you will automatically appear in another place where you will fight the Eccentric Swordsman. Evade or block his attacks to pressure him. He is weak against fire damage so use that to your advantage.
Once you defeat the Eccentric Swordsman, you have finished the Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel missions and will be one step closer to challenging Gilgamesh. He will look familiar when you do. I hope this helped obtain the Protorelic and beat the Gears and Gambit mini-game.
