Final Fantasy XVI: Blacksmith’s Blues I
At the start of the "Here Be Monsters" main quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive will head back to The Hideaway with Jill to get ready for their journey to the isle of Drustanus. Before departing, players can take on two new side quests by locating and talking to their quest-givers in The Hideaway.
Make sure you are at least level 28, otherwise the quest might be a bit difficult to complete.
How To Start Blacksmith's Blues
- Travel to The Mess area in The Hideaway and speak to August, who can be found looking out to the horizon in the southeast corner.
- Accept the quest, backtrack to the Boarding Deck, and head north into the Main Deck.
- Turn left and take the first right, and you will arrive at The Black Hammer, where Blackthorne's Forge is.
- Interact with Blackthorne, who can be seen standing behind his anvil, and August will appear to initiate the quest.
- You will be given the objective to locate Leather Cuirass for Blackthorne to study.
- Talk to Charon, who is just right of The Black Hammer's entrance, to further your objective.
How to Find Dozmare The Griffin
- Your objective will be to locate the leatherworker with the Leather Cuirass, and their next job requires them to find and defeat a Griffin.
- First, enter The Mess and interact with Nektar, the Moogle standing next to the Hunt Board.
- Select the "Ask about griffin sightings" option to locate Dozmare on the map.
- Fast-travel to the Lostwing Obelisk and follow the road leading through Cutter's Gate.
- Reach Caer Norvent River Gate and head south toward the castle's wall to begin the fight.

How To Beat Dozmare The Griffin
- Dozmare's opening attacks are mostly physical and easy to dodge if Clive is standing at a safe distance, though they come in a bit quickly.
- Once Dozmare's at half HP, he will begin using some high-damage wind-based attacks that can take a significant amount off your HP.
- Watch out for the tornado attack - if you see that you're within the tornado's range, you can dodge before you take damage.
- Also beware of the Noble Dive attack - back away once you see the text appear above Dozmare's body to avoid getting hit by the shockwave this attack produces.
- While Dozmare is in the air, Clive's physical attacks become unreliable, however, you can utilize Ramuh's projectile abilities to deal tons of damage from a distance.
Note: If the battle is too challenging, you might need to level up Clive before you attempt it again.
How To Complete Blacksmith Blues
- After defeating Dozmare, the leather worker can be found directly south of the battlefield, and he will give Clive Treated Leather to pass on to Blackthorne.
- Fast-traveling back to The Hideaway, return to The Black Hammer, and speak to Blackthorne to hand over the Treated Leather.
