After the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream, Blizzard Entertainment quickly followed up with some additional information regarding the fresh WoW Classic servers going live on November 21, 2024.
We will take a look at Blizzard's stance on GDKPs and what that may entail for the community, given the prelevant botting issues players have faced years and years.

No GDKPs in Fresh WoW Classic Servers
The company has gone public with its anti-GDKP policy which will prohibit gold dragon kill point runs in Anniversary realms in the NA and EU regions.
Note: This policy will not be implemented in regions outside of NA and EU at this time, though we reserve the right to change this.
What this means is players will be encouraged to attain loot and gear through hard work and teamwork, instead of relying on gold purchases for items. This was met with a lot of praise from the WoW community, given how crippling this can be for the in-game gold economy whilst also incentivizing pay-to-win aspects which are generally frowned upon by the player base.
While we understand that there are some benefits for those who find this a convenient way to gain gear, we also recognize that there are concerns surrounding GDKP eroding traditional guild and social structures that are a part of the spirit of the game. Player feedback in Season of Discovery realms in NA and EU has largely been positive about this change, and it aligns with our internal findings.

WoW Botting Problems
World of Warcraft is no stranger to cheating and abuse of ToS, and bots have been plaguing the game for decades now. Not only do bots bring a lot of frustration to the player base, but it has also birthed a gold buying/selling practice that is still shunned to this day by veterans and long-time fans of the MMORPG.
Despite the ban against GDKPs being a step in the right direction, many are wondering whether Blizzard will finally dedicate more manpower and resources to controlling the waves of bots ruining the in-game economy. Not only do these practices go against the nature of WoW Classic, but they also foster an environment where paying real money to shady third parties just to get an advantage in-game has been the bane in the Classic community since the return of Vanilla WoW.
We will continue to monitor feedback about this topic closely, and we may make adjustments to this policy in the future.
In the end, it is important to remember that World of Warcraft started out very slow in terms of leveling and progression with little to no information, whereas modern-day players have a vast array of resources to optimize their leveling, gold acquisition, and raid mechanics to ensure smooth runs.
We will just have to see how the fresh servers will pan out, but as always, best of luck on your journeys, brave champions of Azeroth! You can also check out our other Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct articles, here:
