Helldivers 2: What are Spore Spewers and How to Destroy Them

The war in Helldivers 2 is never easy. Whether you are blowing up bugs or destroying Automatons, it's an intense battle that seems to lean more and more in favor of the enemies of democracy. The developers behind the successful shooter have unleashed planetary hazards and flying bugs while many fans think that they have a new potential enemy faction coming soon. 

All we can do is continue the good fight until our galaxy is free. To that end, we must learn all we can about the enemies in Helldivers 2. Everyone knows the best way to defeat our opponents is to understand them. Actually, the best way is a bullet to their head but before you can get a good shot, you will need to know where to aim. 

We are going to be looking at an enemy that doesn't do any damage to our soldiers. Instead, the Spore Spewers cover portions of the map in a thick fog, leading to a lack of visibility, friendly fire, and bug ambushes. Let's see if we can figure out the best way to deal with the mushroom towers plaguing our galaxy. 

What Are Spore Spewers in Helldivers 2?

Do not mix these enemies up with the Bile Spewers. The Spore Spewers are large mushroom-like growths that cover large sections of the map in a dark yellow-green fog. You can find them on Terminid Planets and only on missions with a difficulty of challenging or higher. Helldivers 2 does not call the Spore Spewers individual enemies, but refers to them as Tactical Enemy Objectives. 

The best way to spot where the Spore Spewer is within the fog is to climb to a higher vantage point. This isn't always possible and sometimes you will have to use the old-fashioned tactic of running in, shooting as you go. Look for the densest patch of alien mist. This will indicate you are close to a Spore Spewer. 

How to Destroy Spore Spewers in Helldivers 2

The good news in Helldivers 2 is that while it can be difficult to find the Spore Spewers, you can destroy them easily. They do not have heavy armor. You can take them down with your primary weapon without much trouble. Even shotguns are effective as long as you get close enough. 

Support weapons will make the job easier, with the EAT-17 wiping a Spore Spewer out with one good hit. Focus on explosive weapons like the Autocannon and Grenade Launcher.

Be aware that these guns can cause damage to your teammates and with the reduced visibility, friendly fire is common. Set up a sentry to defend you from any enemies defending the Spewer because it will almost certainly trigger a bug breach.
