The full release of Last Epoch has finally arrived, with the 1.0 version of the game shipping on February 21st, and players are already wondering what kind of characters they want to make for their first experience through the world of Eterra. The game features 5 different classes that you can start the game with, which will later branch out into 15 subclasses, called masteries. With so much discourse around these masteries, players have started to wonder if they will be able to switch between them, allowing them to switch up their playstyle and build later on in the game.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the Mastery system in Last Epoch, as well as whether or not you will be able to change your chosen Mastery in the later stages of the game.

What Are Masteries in Last Epoch?
Masteries in Last Epoch are the different subclasses that you will be able to specialize your character into. Each class has three different masteries available to them, providing players with a variety of playstyles depending on their preferences. Each Mastery comes with its own skill tree that you can put points into while leveling up, with certain thresholds that will unlock new abilities.
At a certain point during the campaign, players are going to have to choose between one of these masteries. Choosing a specific Mastery unlocks the full skill tree associated with it. While this will not prevent you from picking some passive points from the other masteries, it will lock you out of the second half of their respective skill trees. This means that you will be able to create some hybrid builds between the different masteries, but you won't have access to all of the tools from any of the other choices.

Can You Change Your Mastery in Last Epoch?
Currently, you are not able to change your Mastery in Last Epoch. Once you make the choice during the campaign, you will not be able to change your decision at any point later in the game. This is pretty much the only part of your character that will remain permanent, and you will need to reroll if you want to fully experience another Mastery for that particular class. There is no current information on whether or not this will be changed at a later date. We recommend taking a look at the full passive trees and skill trees for the class you are planning on playing before making a choice you might regret.
That is everything you need to know about the Mastery system in Last Epoch and whether or not you will be able to change your mind during the later stages of the game. Hopefully, you make the right choice and manage to find the perfect Mastery for your own playstyle during your first playthrough of Last Epoch.
