League of Legends saw some major changes to the Champion Mastery system on May 15, 2024, sparking a lot of controversy and feedback from the community. The new system promised more rewards for players seeking to further flex their champion mastery, however, to the surprise of many, the new system came with a lot more grinding and very unsatisfactory achievements.
Given the enormous backlash from the community, the devs shared that they are working on changing the current system so that players do not feel cheated out of the promises they got earlier in the year. Having that in mind, we will take a look at everything we know so far about the League of Legends Champion Mastery system.

LoL Season 14 Champion Mastery Changes
Recently, the dev team shared that Champion Mastery changes are coming based on the feedback players have provided. We will take a look at everything we know as well as why the current system is not rewarding enough the players for their dedication to mastering specific champions in League of Legends.
We're making some changes to Champion Mastery based on your feedback:
The first is that the repeated mastery milestone will require 3 S grades instead of 7, making it easier for dedicated mains to level up their mastery. Coming next patch.
More in the upcoming dev vlog! ;)
Finally, players will no longer feel like playing their favorite champions to increase their Mastery Level will be such a grind, despite the reassurance of Riot Games of the opposite.

LoL Current Champion Mastery System Issues
Currently, the system in League of Legends suffers a lot from artificially inflating the requirements to upgrade your Mastery Level as well as increase your points. Not only were Season Split Milestones introduced that further incentivized players to constantly grind games so they could earn more credibility for their champion prowess, but also created an abysmal way to reward these efforts.

LoL Champion Mastery Milestone Requirements
Additionally, the Season Split Milestones came under heavy fire from the players, as the requirements were simply outrageous to complete, given the limited time you had each season split to notably achieve a high enough rank worth pursuing.

Hopefully, the upcoming changes to the Champion Mastery system will make it much more rewarding for players to pursue higher milestones, without feeling burnt out and grinding over and over for a chance to get an S- Grade or above.
And that is everything we know about the upcoming changes to the Champion Mastery system in League of Legends. Fingers crossed Riot also addresses some of the issues with Split Mastery Sets as players are stuck playing only specific characters, instead of being able to freely choose which Champion Mastery they would like to increase.
