Patch 14.20 has been here for a while now and it brought lots of changes to the League of Legends meta. They're manifesting through item and champion buffs and nerfs. In this article, we will take a look at the best support champ picks for Ranked so you can climb up the Ranked ladder in LoL.
We will give several examples of champions per tier, so you can decide for yourself which pick fits your play style and which support will give you the best chances of carrying your team to victory.
Given how much the meta can shake things up, you should pay attention to each patch as your favorite champion might be hit with the nerf hammer, as Riot unleashes a new broken champion on the mid-lane.

Tier List Explanation
This tier list will examine some of the most-played League of Legends champions in the bot lane. Keep in mind that this is for Emerald+ divisions.
- B-Tier: Viable and reliable in most situations, you can manage rather decently.
- A-Tier: Great options but lacking just slightly either in terms of damage or utility.
- S-Tier: The best champions you can use to ensure you are always victorious.
NOTE: Although this tier list strives to be as objective as possible in terms of viability, you should not limit yourself to strictly adhere to this list, but rather experiment and see which champion feels fun to play with.

B-Tier Support Champions
Zyra might not be as strong as she used to be but she offers some amazing zoning and poke. She's versatile and easy to play, despite the lack of mobility and how easily she can steal farm.
Vel'Koz is a decent pick in patch 14.20 but not an amazing one. He shines bright in team fights, thanks to his crowd control, damage output, and long-range.
Seraphine is losing some of her influence in this current meta but she's still good. With her, you get lots of versatility - shield, heal, charm, and solid damage.
With good roaming and CC, Neeko can be an amazing support. The thing is, you'll utilize her kit to the fullest only if you're a good player and dedicate a lot of time to mastering this champion.
Hwei is another versatile LoL champion but, unfortunately, he's really hard to pick up and master.

A-Tier Support Champions
Sona has a little something for every situation - damage, heal, and speed boost. She's a textbook support which can get any ADC out of a sticky situation.
Soraka is easy to play and she offers amazing healing, both per champion and for the whole team, thanks to her global ult.
Bard might be a little difficult to play, compared to some supports on this list, but his mixed damage is decent enough to land him in the A-Tier.
Alistar is a classic low elo support. He's not as valuable as he used to be in his golden days, but he's still a very good choice for beginner players.
A tanky pick with unique abilities. Tahm Kench will bring the utility you need in both laning and team fights.

Always valuable, always decent, Brand is still a good choice for Ranked, relying on some amazing AoE damage.
Rakan is definitely not a free elo pick but his ability to engage and disengage easily is really important. He's a versatile support, performing well in the laning phase and team fights. However, his full potential unleashes only when he's with Xayah.
Swain is those champions who are easy and satisfying to play with, bringing crowd control, sustain, and good damage output to Ranked.

S-Tier Support Champions
No changes here - Senna is still absolutely OP and has huge solo carry potential. Her passive can scale indefinitely, making her extra dangerous on the Summoner's Rift.
Rell is making her debut in the S-tier. She's in an amazing place in the current support meta, shining the brightest in team fights.
Lulu is the type of support that can keep even the craziest ADC safe. This, plus her boosts, is what makes her extra special in this current LoL patch.
With insane damage, a shield, short cooldowns, and lots of utility, Lux is still one of the best support champions.

Thresh is another champion who has been absolutely killing it for a few patches now. This isn't surprising as he is a very stable and decent pick, offering crowd control, mobility, engagement, peel, and utility.
Janna might be squishy but she's one of the supports with the highest win rates. She's fast and has one of the best shields in LoL. A good Janna can be incredible.
When hasn't Morgana been an absolutely amazing support? She can thank her OP shield and stun for that.
Similar to Morgana, Blitz is a champion who's always relevant and decent in the bot lane. Who doesn't fear his hook?

With great roaming and CC, Leona is still among the best support picks for ranked. She might be team reliant but she offers a lot.
Don't underestimate this mermaid, as she brings great healing, buffs, and crowd control to the Summoner's Rift.
Taric could be considered the support champion with the highest win rate in this current League of Legends patch. His kit offers a mix of healing, crowd control, and invulnerability.
